Album Notes

Debut album of soulful, paroxysmal pop from Gothenburg quartet Spring In Paris, follows a musical timeline as charted by The Kinks, The Velvets, Modern Lovers, The Go-Betweens, Yo La Tengo, and so on, and so on… Singer, guitarist, and songwriter Joel Alme’s sincere, soulful vocals are in the forefront here and he gets compared to Jonathan Richman and a young Ray Davies more often than not. At times the words just seem to tumble out of him. In fact, at most times! Producer Bjorn Olsson creates a lovely setting for the band and the band’s songs and each individual pluck, strum, and beat. All the sounds have that special Bjorn-tastic glow, each instrument an aural aura if you will, making this one of the warmest and most personable albums in recent memory. The latest from Gravitation, who brought us Bjorn Olsson and Elope albums, among others. (www.parasol.com)
