“...grabs the listener twisting him around until all his concepts of how violin music should sound drop to the ground.” “ (Clemens Lackner)
The Austrian SPRING STRING QUARTET
surprises and fills its spectators with enthusiasm: fans of classical music, jazz freaks,
and also fans of rock music.
The musicians – who met each other during their studies in Linz and Vienna - convince with their program in concert halls and in clubs.
It is a unique experience listening to these guys’ interpretations and improvisations.
The concerts of the SPRING STRING QUARTET always brought about enthusiastic
audiences and best press reviews.
The debut CD "Train Songs" (with Music by Tom Waits, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Jethro Tull, Pat Metheny, John Bon Jovi, Johann Strauss a.o.) has been released 2002 by CCn'C records (Germany) and is available worldwide.
The SPRING STRING QUARTET is winner of the "Concerto Poll 2002" in the
category "Best String & Song-Artist National".
In 2003 the SPRING STRING QUARTET started a cooperation with jazz legend LEE
KONITZ, which brought the group to the biggest Jazz Festivals on the European and
North American continent and also into New York’s Jazzclub Birdland.
A CD with altoist Lee Konitz and tenor player Ohad Talmor will be released in May 2005 by Palmetto Records/New York.

"The SPRING STRING QUARTET is the only Austrian string quartet that can fiddle, dance and sing, capture the groove of the most offbeat rhythm combinations and finely counterbalances the most exact harmonies." (Irene Suchy, ORF)
The new CD
Blue Smoke On Johann Strauss
After the successful debut CD „train songs“ the SPRING STRING QUARTET now presents it’s second CD, that focuses more on it’s Austrian Roots – the music of the Waltz King Johann Strauss.
The idea was to ‚wrap up’ compositions of Johann Strauss in a way artists as Christo and Jeanne Claude do it with objects , buildings or landscapes.
„The ‚object’ stays the same but the beholder - in our case the listener - get’s another point of view. At some points, the original material hardly can be recognized, felt or even exists only in very small ‚homeopathic’ doses.
We wanted to set up that ‚wrapped up’ piece of Strauss against a ‚Double’ or ‚Pendant’ out of another musical world that somehow relates to the ‚object’. And the S.S.Q. came up with some great ideas! Too bad we had to leave - heavy hearted - some of them behind!“ (Michael Radanovics)
The result is a fine blend of contemporary sound creations and the unique sound and abilities of the quartet.
Special guests on this CD are jazz legend Lee Konitz, Ohad Talmor and Herwig Neugebauer, who the Spring String Quartet regularly work with.
