Album Notes

Spys4Darwin’s debut six-song EP “microfish”, on the band’s own Pied Viper label, is a glimpse into the creative chemistry of a hybrid quartet that features Alice in Chains rhythm section Sean Kinney and Mike Inez, former Queensryche guitarist Chris DeGarmo, and Sponge vocalist Vin Dombroski. The disc features songs pulled from a week of jam sessions recorded in an abandoned paint factory in Seattle, and later embellished at DeGarmo and Kinney’s houses, and mixed at Studio X. From the opening high-octane pulse of Submission in Love, the boys get down to business creating a wide palette of killer tunes featuring Insomnia Station, Dashboard Jesus, Chain Letter, Flood and the EP’s closing track Cold Dead Hands. Produced by the group and mixed by Adam Kasper (Foo Fighters, Soundgarden), the result is a mixture of crunch-guitar driven, hard-hitting hooks and acoustic subtleties, featuring the edgy punk/pop vocals of Dombroski, mile-wide guitar shower of DeGarmo, and thick-as-cement groove of Kinney and Inez. A full-length album is in the works. *****

we miss DeGarmo

I'm a big Chris DeGarmo fan, and i like to wikipedia him once a year and see if anything new is out. He's just an amazing unique guitarest. Best part about him is he created his own sound. I had a good laugh the other day when i heard a live track (on sirius) of Jet City Woman with his replacement (Mike Stone) that man totally buthered all DeGarmos licks and solos. I had to turn it off. Its sad to see taht band couldn't find a somewhat decent replacement. But then again sometimes you have to know when to call it quits. This CD is great and i'm glad i just got my copy : )

Great Music
author: steven olson
It never ceases to amaze me, the musicianship and quality of music that comes out if the Pacific Northwest. Here again, musicians from different bands come together and put out an album that rocks from the 1st to the last track. When one is able to hear a song and know that song will be on a favorites list from the first listen, then you have truly, a magical album. Buy this album, you'll be glad you did.
