Four classical musicians from Latvia (!), and a French jazz composer/arranger from Denmark made this beautiful unique CD of well-known jazz standards performed by a classical string quartet. Stimulating and challenging: use of odd meters, unusual rhythmic combinations and complex harmonies create an ideal surrounding for exciting improvisation. PERFECT for when you're feeling a litle bit classical but not in the mood for Mozart.

With this album, Pierre Tassone and the string quartet Difference have once again proved that there is nothing supernatural in the union of such opposite genres as Classical Music and Jazz. It seems that's true, despite the fact that the essence of the first of them is the composition, whereas the essence of the latter is the improvisation performed on the spur of the moment. In my view, there are no differences between Zero and Infinity and the trips to the Micro World can be as endless and rich in discoveries as the flights to the Macro World. All in all, "Take Care of the Difference" is in many ways a unique album.

Des arrangements novateurs, délicats qui donnent toute la force à l'album et mettent en valeur avec un infini respect et un amour, les compositions (devenues aujourd'hui des standards)de Maitres (M.Davis, Gershin,A.C. Jobim....), le tout interprété par un quatuor de virtuose dans une ambiance sereine à la fois minimale, mélodique et complexe. Une maturité musicale spontanéé qui fait de ce disque une pièce unique,un modèle et une référence dans le sens où il renouvelle complètement l'art de l'arrangement et de l'interprètation, et ouvre la voie à de nouvelles générations de musiciens libérés de carcans dans lesquels se sont enfermés le Jazz, le Classique et le Contemporain. I listen to this CD many times but since the first one it takes my breath away. It's rare to listen classical musicians playing jazz with swing. I love all arragements for the standards, but I also have to mention the two brilliants songs writen by Pierre Tassone. Great album. Best of the year.
