notes
The Square Egg returns with a self-produced follow up to their debut full length, Songs To Live By which is also available here at CD Baby.
Featured are collaborations with Big Brooklyn Red, Antonia Jenae and others.
Dusty Groove America - "The Square Egg are a really great group with a totally unique sound -- and one that we're really surprised comes off so well!"
"There's a style here that seems to stretch back to the madder side of the Ohio Players and P-Funk of the 70s -- yet which features none of the direct ripoff elements you might expect."
Miami Herald - "...every now and then, an original voice comes along...a mixture of soul, rap, funk, jazz and the essential intangible appeal that has every critic scrambling to come up with another term for "crossover urban-pop fusion."
"...smooth, gold-soul raps simmered with jazzified funk and right-tight grooves"
City Search.com - 2001 Best of City Search Nominee for Best Local Music Act - "The thoughtful lyrics delivered by The Square Egg frontman, Lee, are only one facet of what sets this band apart."
"Most important, they obviously enjoy what they are doing, and that fervor is contagious."
El Nuevo Herald/ Miami Herald - "(Lee's) impeccable interpretations have the freshness of the improvisations of rap and hip hop, but with lyrics with a solid foundation and a jazzy groove that flows generously over his warm voice."

I saw you live in Providence!
author: GinaI love this CD! I saw you in Providence last summer for the Water Fire/Black Rep Block Party. I want you to come back ASAP! Keep up the great work. Thank you, Gina D
Don't try to label it.
author: DavidThat's right. Disregard all labels because this album probably fits all of them. If you had to label it, you'd have to call it 'eclectic'. You can tell that there is a wide range of influence. I think that says it all. Sit back and enjoy some great music.
Sexy, Politica, Powerful...
author: Manu CFrench philosopher Roland Barthes once described the political as the stuff that affects our everyday lives, what we do and say, how we behave toward each other. Politics, by contrast, he described as the ugly, repetitious, arrogant discourse that invades our daily lives. If I take this into account, The Square Egg have pulled off a perfect political album here. Amazing rhymes, great musicianship, deeply textured arrangements and a great sense of the history of Black Music, not just in North America, but in the Caribbean and everywhere else. The songs are intensely personal, they caress and draw one in, as life itself tends to do. The Wooden Tongue is a thing of beauty...

Bounce, slide, bounce, bounce, think! Only a square egg (with purple stripes)can hatch this kind of goose stepping! Too tight! Puts a smile on my pet roaches too!!
These guys keep getting better and better!
author: AnonGreat CD. It is even as good as the first - if not better. They are both different and solid in their own right. I anticipate more from this outfit and look forward to some doors opening up for them soon.
