notes
"Things Change is The Square Egg's third and best album -- in fact, the crew's third album in the stretch of a single year -- a more stridently social and political effort with a wildly adventurous sound!
The Square Egg is just about the most individualistic projects you'll find in the Nusoul underground -- featuring spoken, rhymed, and word jazz vocals by Lee -- with laid back support by a revolving cast on beat programming, Fender Rhodes, soul jazz guitar, bass and drums, horns, and occasional cuts and scratches. It's a tough sound to pin down, with the spoken word interludes, jazzy vocal numbers and righteous rhymes -- but one that's cleverly steeped in disparate influences that still manage to sit well together.
So many ambitious underground artists try to meld influences from De La Soul to Herbie Hancock, from the Last Poets to the Black Rock Coalition, together in the same stylistic frappe and fail miserably. The Square Egg pulls it off, and richly deserve a little bit of attention for the effort!" - Dusty Groove America (April 2005)

Enjoyed Listening Without Skipping Through
author: YolandaThis CD is not only worth what you pay, but much more. The music speaks to how humans are ... complex. It is a mixture of spoken word, soul, rhythm, rock ... you will not only experience it all, but it actually works. It speaks on waking up, on taking action, on changing, on love, on perservering. I urge all to support this group for this truly is music.

A journey into the soul....
author: muzikgirlThings always change....and with TSE it's always for good! This unique album is a beautiful blend of musical elements and genres. One song slides effortlessly into the next making listening to 'Things Change' a soothing experience, a journey into the soul.
These cats Swing the righteous Groove !!!
author: Lrd. BuckleyNever heard the Square Egg before they dropped by the Kyle Jason show on AAR, but let me hip you cats and kitties, they're something positive to be heard. In terms of technique :: They're a big band, horns, something like EW&F, but with definitive hip-hop, De-La-Soul, PlugOne roots as well. In terms of content :: Lee has a gift for speaking the Real, the Raw, and the Progressive Politic, while simultaniously bringing a Positive, uplifting feel. (and in this day and age, that's no small task :) I see no reason for the FCC Parental Advisory, teens would gain a much better insight into Urban Culture from the Square Egg, than is possible from ANY big lable rap group. Buy it, you owe it to yourself, baby... :)
Sweet Soul Music...
author: Manu CAnother incredible album by The Square Egg, the third I've bought by these incredibly talented artists in about three months. This time around, Lee & Co. are on a smoother, more sensual vibe. "Feelin'" is a slow jam for one's body, mind and spirit--the kind of tune that will be on really heavy rotation over here... The rest of the album is all about the superlative musicianship and social sensibilities that were on display in Songs to Live By and The Wooden Tongue. We would all do well to listen and listen hard here. There are messages about the current state of our world, spoken in a deep, clear and lucid voice, that could one day save our souls. A must-have.

author: Rare Gem'Things Change' proves The Square Egg's consistency to transcend time and space. With a fresh blend of instruments and sound effects that compliments Lee's orgasmic voice, this album gives hope to those in search of 'real' music. With lyrics that sneak a smile on your face, ballads that make you reminisce, and politically charged cuts that force you to become aware of our reality; this album should be in your CD player right now. BUY IT !!!!!!!!!!
The best yet
author: MRBeen a TSE fan for a while now, from way back to A Place Called Ted's. This is easily their best effort yet. The introspective, positive messages set to phenomenal instrumentation are a breath of fresh air. Lee and his talented band show that there is still life in modern music.
