"City of Strangers", the first full length album to be released by Squirrel Mike, is a documentary of city living. Recorded in Philadelphia over the past two years, the ten tracks pay tribute to the operational routine of urban life. Songs like "Assembly Line" and "Sidewalking" draw inspiration from the pulsing uniformity of pedestrian traffic, whereas the upbeat track "Thailand" invokes images of neon socializing in a posh nightclub. The ambient downtempo tones of this album make it a perfect selection for throwing on headphones, hitting the sidewalks and being fully immersed within a crowd of strangers.
Squirrel Mike has recorded and worked previously with Sharon Little (CBS Records).

Five stars...

...and if I could give it more, I would. I don't think I've ever been so entranced by an entire album; there's usually one or two songs that are kind of "meh," but not here - not in this one.
I played this album on repeat during a bus ride back to Philadelphia one late afternoon; I watched the sun set and felt weightless. It felt as though every beat was carrying me home.
Favorite track: Falling From Orbit
This album doesn't only sound good; it also feels good. Even the ominous-sounding "Dangerous Groups" and "Underground". I love it all. And you will, too.
