In a certain sense, Sqwonk came into existence some time in the spring of 2005. This is when Jon Russell and Jeff Anderle started playing bass clarinet duets together, leading up to a joint recital in May, the discovery of the name Sqwonk that autumn, and History soon thereafter. In another, deeper sense, Sqwonk has always existed, in the fiery heart of the volcano, in the primal scream of the pterodactyl, and in the laughter of small children and rodents.

I've only recently become interested in the bass clarinet- I play no instruments, but I have many friends who do. One had expressed his love for his bass clarinet, so I set out to learn more about it. Besides the technical, I wanted to hear it in action. I started on YouTube, where I found Sqwonk preforming Black, and I fell in love. Your rhythm was exact and your tonality perfect, and I needed more! I've since bought both of your cds, and look forward to buying a shirt. Thank you for bringing us such great music!
