notes
Merrily Greet the Time features 4- time Scottish harp champion Sue Richards on Celtic harp and Maggie Sansone on hammered dulcimer with special guest musician appearances on tracks 3,9,15,19 that includes Connie McKenna-Irish & English vocals; Karen Ashbrook-Irish flute, hammered dulcimer;Ralph Gordon-cello performing seasonal music from Autumn Equinox to the Celtic New Year ( Samhain), the Winter Solstice, 12 days of Christmas and the New Year from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and other lands where Celtic people settled. Through harvest time, to the old Celtic new year called Samhain (now called "Hallowe'en"), the time of the Winter Solstice and the longest nights, and on to the coming promised light of Christmas and the New Year, our ancestors braced for the cold with the warmth that the winter hearth (and a good pint) could bring. Recorded live at the studios of XM Satellite Radio.more...A music fan from Washington D.C.
Its the first CD produced, recorded at the XM Radio studios which are state-of-the -art recording facilities and with Robert Aubrey Davis's liner notes- a grammy award winner himself and well known radio and tv host and personality in the Washington D.C. area - the notes are very informative and historically accurate and give a good picture of the overall content of the music. Grouping the music in sections that highlight music for Samhain- our modern day Halloween, Winter Solstice is very informative and the music is engaging. It's a treat to hear Irish- American singer Connie McKenna's vocals on 3 songs including a sean nos Irish-Gaelic. The interplay between Celtic harp and hammered dulcimer is a lovely sound for Christmas or any time of the year.Maggie's Music, record label with its home in the Washington D.C. area is highly regarded worldwide for its Holiday offerings ( Scottish Christmas featuring Bonnie Rideout and A Winter's Night with Ensemble Galilei, to name a few) and this one hits the mark for many reasons.

emotionally satisfying
author: PNTerrific choice of songs, arrangements, performances and singing - very professional and very emotionally satisfying.
Great CD to read a book with.
author: M. C.This CD has great music that is cheerful as background music. It is excellent ot listen to while reading a book. Several of the tracks could be listened to all year long.
Terrific song selection and great instrumentals.
author: t. l. changI really enjoyed the breadth of material in this CD. Terrific song selection, and the instrumentals were beautiful. I didn't think the vocals were quite as strong (the only song I disliked on the whole CD was "Song of Wandering Aengus" -which is one of my favorite poems - but I didn't think it worked very well musically here). But overall, this CD is great and will join my CDs in frequent rotation.
You get a lot for your money on this one!
author: R. A. ThompsonThe inside cover has fantastic background information on many Christmas traditions that stem from Celtic beginnings. All holiday theme aside, this CD is the soundtrack to whatever thoughts are in your head. Very few artists cause me to just lay back and listen. Well, actually it never happens, but it did with this one! It's a great CD to write to as well.
Great sounds of the season well into January!
author: Norm HechtThis is simply beautiful music. Anyone who has heard either Sue or Magie alone or together will love this. I have enjoyed it well into mid-winter.
Absolutely beautiful. A holiday must listen.
author: Peter GoldthwaiteThis "Celtic Holiday Celebration"-- a 21st Century GREAT FIND !
author: ~WandaThis has been a long awaited CELTIC HOLIDAY celebration! A great find for all of us Sue Richards fans -- the union with Maggie Sansome on hammered dulcimer is artistry in motion. Their choice of selections with historical comment has both surprized and delighted me. And,what a pleasant introduction to the very fine guest artists featured. Much to be learned -- I will be playing this one often. MANY THANKS to all...
