Should I have written this title as Rock n Roll? Growing up in the South, you listen to a combination of blues, country, gospel, rock n roll and soul music that forms a home-grown style of musical taste and expression. Swing Shift calls it good time Rock n Roll.
Swing Shift started out as a gutsy, garage bar band dedicated to dance music and a good time. Known in the trade as weekend warriors, the band members hold down day jobs while gigging at night. Whether its on the back of a flat-bed trailer, in someone's yard or in one of the local jukes, the band is known as a working band. Swing Shift feels at home in Memphis, Jackson, Birmingham, the Delta and all points in between.
Fans were hungry for a cd. After much discussion and soul searching, the band decided to cut a few songs. A funny thing happened while chasing an almost forgotten dream; the band caught fire, creative juices flowed and inspiration peeped into the room causing even more songs to be written and recorded.
Mississippi Back 40 Rockin is a bit like listening in on the culmination of centuries of work; if you count how long it took for field hollerers to moan their way out of the Delta, for the blues to work its dirty fingers into everything south of Chicago that's how carrying the torch takes more than just paying dues. There's also a whole lot of perspective involved.Formed in 1985, Swing Shift has played hundreds of jobs, ranging from patio parties to opening shows for artists such as Lee Greenwood and Ricky Skaggs. Over the past twenty years, the band has performed at a number of festivals, country clubs, and charity events in the region as well.
