Album Notes

This CD is the result of a great connection between Robert Nobilia and Lindsay Askew. The two have come together at the perfect time in their careers, this is obvious in the music. It is a perfectly balanced blend of electronica and acoustic, polished and rustic.

Robert is a Singer/Songwriter and plays the Tenor Saxophone and Keyboards.
He has been part of many bands in the space of about 15 years including 'Bad Penny', 'Blue Heaven', 'Slap', 'Night Zoo', 'Double Up' and (currently) 'Stark'.

Listeners of his vocal style have drawn parallels to 'Seal' and 'Sting'. This is partly due to having been coached by American R&B vocalist 'David Stoner' for several years.

Lindsay plays the guitar and bass, and his extraordinary feel for rhythmical expression and an uncanny ability to oversee the polished product are the perfect compliment to "Stark". His production experience and skills are second to none.

He has been producing sounds for various projects since the seventies, defining the sounds of many bands including "The Jeff St.John Band" and "The Wright Brothers".
He has also produced work for Coca Cola in Asia.

The sheer volume of recordings produced by "Stark " is a remarkable feat. Ever since the year 2000 (when the company was formed) the duo has harmoniously merged talents to turn over a consistent weekly output of high quality songs recorded at "Club Dred Studios".

In the national "2002 Musicoz Competition" one of 'Stark's' songs, 'My first kiss' was awarded a semi-final position.

Robert and Lindsay can also supply a professionally mixed and mastered soundtrack for the screen, ranging from orchestral to electronically modern, to suit any visual environment.

Through a mixture of sampling, guitar, piano/keyboard, sax, vocals, bass guitar and percussion, "Stark" offers a wide range of taylor made "Mood food", with a meticulous sculptural appreciation of dark and light, bold and subtle.

As musicians for many years, Robert and Lindsay understand how to capture and record the essence of 'Fun', 'Humour', 'Melancholy', 'Anger', 'Joy', 'Action', and 'Sensuality' (just to name a few) and supply the audio in a range of formats including time coded digital audio tape and compact disc.

Robert has performed live at many places around Sydney including; The Forest Hotel, The Overlander Hotel, The Bridge Hotel, Cabramatta Rugby Leagues Club, Cerutis, The Tollgate Hotel, Platform 9, Beverly Hills Hotel, The Wentworth Hotel, Kemps Creek Hotel, Miranda RSL Club, Coogee RSL Club, Seven Hills RSL Club, The Belmore Hotel, The Croydon Café, South Sydney Juniors, St. Johns Park Bowling Club, and Sweethearts, just to name a few - charming audiences with his warm, stylish vocal ability and intimate stage presence.

Gavin Fitzgerald of the 'Songwriting Society of Australia' describes "Stark's" material in a review as "evocative white soul with an energetic spirit".

The lyrical content of the songs is on one hand quite breezy and uplifting, while also expressing an emotional and spiritual yearning that touches the heart. For example, in the song "Myself" Robert writes 'Since you've been a part of my life, I've been alright. I've been much more than alright. Since you've been a part of my life I've been myself'.

In the song "Best that I can", the words 'If I were a blind man I would have to live my life without the colours and fade away. If I were a deaf man I would have to miss the love that lies within me and fade to grey.....Now I will do the best that I can with what I've got and that's a start'.

Robert has written music for; Short films such as 'The Sanctuary' and 'Getting Off', Documentaries including the ABC's 'Keep Abreast', and Pilots for TV, such as 'Sketch Pad', and 'Soccer Squared'.

He is a member of 'The Australian Guild of Screen Composers' and has been registering songs with 'APRA' since 1995.

"Stark's" aspirations are to continue live performances of original material and eventually record and distribute a single, which would then lead to an album of best songs to date. Both National and International acclaim are on the agenda.

The material generally lends itself to an Adult Contemporary market, yet has a universal sound which appeals to all ages. Enjoy!
