S.T.A.R.S. Project: Solar Technology and Rock Songs – "ISWM INDIE PICK OF THE MONTH" – This is a compilation filled with top indie songwriters praising the power of that burning ball of gas in the sky, and the many effects it has on our everyday existence. There are ballads about its beauty, warnings about its destructive powers, and even songs suggesting that James Lovelock's Gaia theory may be coming true. This is a fantastic observational piece of work that serves as a relevant sounding board for environmental activists and all of humankind in general.

Solar Technology And Rock Songs: STARS: Various Artists (Kweevak.com) – This is a basically a benefit comp. to raise funds for solar and environmental causes. Most of the songs have the word 'sun' in the title, which is pretty nice listening in February! The second track, 'Sunshine', by Kirk McFee sounds so much like Soul Asylum (my guilty junior high pleasure ;) that I had to do a double take. The bulk of the music on here falls under the umbrella of 'alternative' music. I also noticed right away that both Simon Stinger and Jefferson Denim have tracks on here - two of my favorite indie bands, actually. This is a really great compilation and a great way to find some new indie artists. Go Kweevak.com! And go solar...

S.T.A.R.S Compilation: Solar Technology and Rock Songs – ...songs that stand out as memorable would be "Day Break" by Lady J for the beautiful voice of the singer and her 60's style. Also Ricky Bee's "Sunny Boy" is the brink of what current bands The Faint and the like are after: true new-wave sound. The following track, "Summertime" by Simon Stinger, has Johnette Naplitano (Concrete Blond) meets female vocals in the genre of Toni Basil's "Hey Mickey." Basically, singer Alicia Perrone has an accent going despite the fact that the band comes from San Francisco. It's not a bad tune, possibly one of the better on the disc. Sandmouth from Ontario, Canada had a singer with a very strong Fuel-like voice, which stood them apart as an enjoyable addition or band with a bourne, and it's possibly the most "hip" track of the bunch.... you have everything from Black Sabbath to Pink Floyd to Bob Dylan to John Cougar Mellencamp to Sean Penn. As far as covering all grounds, this compilation has it down...
