Nobody mixes humor and dread quite like lo-fi songwriting legend Peter DeGroot. His new band features toy keyboards, 3-string toy guitar, bass from a tiny amplifier and a drummer who uses only a snare drum and floor tom.

Album Notes

He's not very old, but lo-fi songwriting legend Peter "The Great" DeGroot is up to over 30 albums now, no one can keep track.

In the mythology of The Great, Startle Easilies is an epithet for residents of Startlevania, an underground land below Slaimland, where Worrynauts are occasionally sent above to explore. Can anyone match The Great for melodic instincts, absurd minimalist lyrics that cut with more insight and humor than most novels, and brain opening sonic sense? We think perhaps not. But what makes the group extra special, we feel, is the way they completely conjure and inhabit the childlike, yet vaguely threatening world of Startlevania.
