A perfect mix of dark electronics, snarling guitars and Peter Murphy-esque vocal

Few local bands can claim the same longevity as State of Being. Moving from 'Pretty Hate Machine'-esque electronics in the early 90's to today's hard-rocking' outfit has been quite a progression for them. Their new album, 'Haywire' is the epitome of that progression. A perfect mix of dark electronics, snarling guitars and Peter Murphy-esque vocals, it takes you in on the very first song and doesn't let go until the last track has faded out.
"Haywire" has also produced their catchiest songs to date: 'Levity' and the title song, 'Haywire', which, along with the bombastic 'Overload', kicks the disc off in full gear with choruses you'll be singing for days. The amps don't stay on eleven the whole time though. The disc twists and turns directions with songs like the dance floor friendly 'Take me Away' and the melancholy 'This Thing', before arriving back on the full-on epic rocker 'End of the World'.
"Haywire" sounds like a sound realized. It's perfectly balanced and ready to break through on the alternative airwaves.

Best album by State Of Being yet!
author: Synthpop.net
This is the third album for State Of Being, following the debut album "Dysfunctional VIsion" and the second album "Implosion". For this album, band founder Christopher Foldi is joined by Shara Foldi, Scott Foldi, Rayanne Turek and Randy Blaire. This third album is easily the most polished yet from State Of Being, as the sound quality is much improved from "Implosion" - both the vocals and music are clear and sharp, without any of the murkiness or softness that has been a issue with previous releases. This album is also the first by the band to be distributed by Metropolis Records, which is no small feat in the underground scene.
"Haywire" finds the band further refining and deepening their original blend of Industrial, Alternative Rock and New Wave. Just the way in which the grinding guitars form the backbone of most of the songs here brings the alternative rock influences to mind here, but the generous synth element that is blended and mixed with the songs shows that State Of Being is more than your standard alt-rock band.
The first three songs, "Haywire", "Overload" and "Levity" are really solid songs, both in a lyrical sense and hook-wise. The choruses all seem to stick with me consistently, and they are melodic enough in nature to overcome their sometimes heavy rock element. "Haywire" is the most overtly synth-laden of the tracks, but they all temper the rocking guitars to some degree with synths. "Shameless" is another highlight of the album, in the same vein as the lead-off three songs. "Take Me Away" introduces a female vocalist into the mix, as Shara Foldi backs up Christopher in the chorus, and then takes the lead vocal role for "Wondering". Probably the darkest track on the album is "I Could", a sinister proclamation of doom and futility that is so emotionally stark I couldn't help but love it.
The album isn't fully perfect, as "Whitespace" and "Apathetic" both seem as songs that aren't as polished and honed as the majority of the tracks here. But overall this album is a very solid work, blending and mixing influences to create a interestingly new approach to Industrial and Alternative Rock. Certainly worth a listen!
