Album Notes

Rebirth Of Divine / Breathe! 0001

Stefano Scippa / soprano sax; Simone Ravaglia / oud - classical guitar; Luigi Corridoni / cello

Soprano saxophonist Stefano Scippa composed this project with the aim to revive chants of early church music placing them into a modern perspective, yet respecting the essence and spirit of the original material. The reference source are found in the wells of Gregorian and Ambrosian chant, Hebrew Psalms and medieval codex. These starter constituents are treated with the modern the modern techniques of contemporary music and the improvisational methods proper of the jazz tradition, all typical tools of the present creativity.

The acoustic trio features three experienced musicians gifted with sensitivity: Stefano on soprano sax, Simone Ravaglia on oud and classical guitar and Luigi Corridoni on cello. The small ensemble gracefully draws inspiration on the “tropes” contained in the songs, treating the tunes in the fashion of faint maps in order to find its ever changing route that frames the whole performance. Little by little invisible lines reveal the architecture of a music reflecting yet transparency and sheer beauty.

The Artists create a superior blend of different flavour and shades, the sounds interlace arabesques of sober elegance, never blurring the clarity of the music. All elements, whether related to traditional sources or current idioms, meet to form a unified and comprehensive language, intended as expression of memory evolution into modernity.
