Album Notes

The song "Bahia Chant" was inspired by my travels to Brazil and hearing the Afro-Brazilian rhythms of the berimbau in the historic Pelourhino section of Salvador in Bahia. The dance between Jazz and Brazilian music is an incredibly fertile place for composing material joyfully rich with rhythmic textures, melodic coloring and harmonic surprises. The choice of instrumentation on "Bahia Chant" presents a wide range of tonal colors that include All Star musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area that include Grammy Nominee John Santos on percussion, Brazilian Marquinho Brasil on percussion, Grammy nominee Wayne Wallace on trombone, Glenn Appell on trumpet, Ernie Mansfield on bass flute and alto flute, Karl Young on shakuhachi ( bamboo zen flute), Michael Golds on vibes, Sam Bevan on upright acoustic bass and Phil Thompson on drums. The CD has a strong guitarist sensibility throughout with myself on electric guitar and acoustic nylon string guitar and my Producer Jack Gates on acoustic nylon string guitar. Friends have told me the music is beautiful, soulful, romantic and soft in places like when the wave gently kisses the shore. You can check out my website at www.larrystefl.com for more info. Enjoy!!!!
