Album Notes

"Stellamara is a global symphony spun through minarets and grounded in the earth."
* * * * * - John Diliberto/ Pulse!/Echoes

"It has become to easy to compare anything that
sounds remotely Middle Eastern to Dead Can Dance.
Though indeed similar to DCD, if Stellamara had
formed first they would be the comparative standard...
Drakulich has as singular a vocal style as Lisa Gerrard does, but with the added allure of a siren"
- Alternative Press

"Stellamara manage to maintain a balance of reverence for the music of other peoples cultures with a haunting elegance of expression."
-Electronic Musician

"[Stellamara] is an earthly blend of ethereal hymns and instrumental reveries with the benefit of contemporary ambient atmospherics"
- Alternative Press

" There is retro and then there is retro... the group time-travels across continents, channeling transcultural rhythms and melodies into a striking contemporary amalgam... Stellamara cuts directly to the devotional essence of music and that's the only kind of
retro that matters."
- S.F. Weekly

"[Stellamara's] music is ancient and mysterious as candle lit catacombs; one can almost smell the smoke of oriental incense tinged with primeval earthen molds... If you like the music of Dead Can Dance, you'll love Stellamara's dark hypnotic tapestry of sound."
-New Age Voice

"Some of the most ancient melodies and rhythms of the world drawn into the modern style of electronic ambient music...The result is timeless music that has depth, inner resonance and mystery...You are gonna love Stellamara."
- Album Network

"Stellamara combines understanding of diverse sourses of music with an ear for accesible grooves, perfect for music fans ready to move beyond the easier sounds of Enya or Peter Gabriel's Passion."
--Exclaim!

"...The results are more than impressive...Often achingly beautiful...
inspiration and solace."
--Aiding and Abetting

Heavenly!
author: Shalom Ormsby

I feel incapable of expressing how transcendently beautiful this music is. I can't imagine that angels sing any more divinely than Sonja Drakulich does, or that any musicians on heaven or earth get deeper into the musical flow than the musicians of Stellamara do. This is music from the heart, to the heart, of the highest imaginable level of creative integrity. This is one of those rare, timeless, priceless releases that gets deeper and richer the more you listen to it. Five stars aren't near enough to rate this work of refined musical art.

Haunting and danceable

This album is a treasure trove of haunting and magnificently danceable melodies. The songs allow for a great range of expression and are perfect for Tribal Bellydance. This cd would also make wonderful, ambient music for a party - and is bound to inspire much spontaneous dancing. This one will be definitely be in rotation on my cd player at this year's Halloween party.

A great second album that lacks the medieval beauty of the first.

Don't get me wrong. This is a great album in the ethnic field, with similarities to artists like Bulgarian Voices and other balkan acts. Considering though my tendency towards medieval elements, as they were introduced in their first (and imho better) album "Star Of The Sea", I think that "The Seven Valleys" lacks exactly this to sound truly magnificent. Many of the songs don't have the quality of their previous work, but do stand above most of the others from the same genre. Highly recommended.
