What makes a great band? Percussive acoustic guitars? Check. Melodic leads and creative fills? Check. Tight interlocking bass, drums and percussion? Check. Heartfelt and meaningful lyrics and vocals? Check. A pompous and pretentious description?

Check.

Stellar Road now has all of the elements.

"I never liked band bios," says Jack Daly, lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Stellar Road. "They're kind of like promo pictures; they always seem unnatural and self-serving."

For those of you who feel the same way, stop reading, pick up Stellar Road's new album Better than Yesterday and let the music speak for itself. However, if you're like me and want to know about the origins of a band, read on.

Stellar Road was formed three years ago with Jack, his brother Mike Daly, and friend Justin Griffin. The three members went through a few line-up changes and temporary breakups, often playing acoustically in local Chicagoland clubs and colleges. They recorded many of their live shows and went into the studio acoustically, the result of which is represented on the band's Acoustic Sessions EP.

In the summer of 2003 Stellar Road was solidified with the addition of drummer Jeff Gargas. The newly re-formed band honed their sound playing weekly shows at local clubs and practice sessions, learning each other's styles through improvisation and writing both on stage and in practice.

"The songs really developed live," says guitarist Mike Daly. "I remember going into "Breathe" the first show with Jeff sitting in, and it just exploded. All of the songs felt fresh and exiting."

Adds guitarist Justin Griffin; "I think we captured that live feel in the studio. The sound is there, and it really represents where we are as a band."

This sound emerges on Better than Yesterday - eleven diverse songs about life, love and loss. All of the elements are there for Stellar Road. With the help of friends, family and fans- Jack, Justin, Mike, and Jeff hope to spread these songs to all who will listen (without pretentiousness or pomposity).
