PRESS RELEASE___

"Sten Hostfalt has developed his own repertoire incorporating microtones. A genuinely innovative approach. 29 Microtonal Pieces Live @ Knitting Factory New York may be considered a groundbreaking work expanding the sonic continuum available to the guitar" - Don Williamson, JazzReview.com

"For those with ears broad enough to allow for the possibility that music can extend beyond the expected and expand the potent boundaries of experience. Strangely appealing with a hypnotic sensibility, so rooted in the unusual as to have the appearance of complete abandon, Sten Hostfalt takes you on a journey where anything is possible"- John Kelman, All About Jazz & Jazz Views ( U.K. )

"High Density, Highly Logical in a Completely Different way and Highly Recommended" - Kenneth Egbert, Jazz Now

" Virtuosic for sure. Rhythmic and textural findings with open surprises creating form wonders " - Joe Maneri

"Rants and Raves. Editor's Pick, February 2005" - Guitar Player

"We're Impressed with his fast fingers and intense focus"
- Hank Shteamer, Time Out New York Magazine

"Without reservation or mannerisms, Sten Hostfalt breathes fresh air much energy and a particular brightness into the execution of a complex never too abstract Jazz, capable of beautiful poetic moments. An optimal result for a player with a life in music ahead" - Alekos Pandelis, Altrisuoni ( Italy )

" In and out of the aural palette in an attractive complexity, Sten Hostfalt gives you another angle on exploring tone colors and guitar abstractions that you will not want to miss " - Grego Applegate Edwards, Cadence Magazine

"Sten Hostfalt Completely Rethinks and Restructures Conventional Technique" - Editor's Pick, download.com

" Sten Hostfalt is Highly Exceptional " - Jimmy Giuffre

29 PIECES FOR THE MICROTONAL GUITAR LIVE AT KNITTING FACTORY NEW YORK, the second album from Sten Hostfalt as a leader,is a August 29th 2002 live recorded NYC soloconcert inspired by Joe Maneri's 72 notes to the octave, virtual pitch continuum, in its focus on microtonal compositions and improvisations performed on electric, acoustic and prepared microtonal guitars & live electronics.

Acknowledged as One of The World's Foremost Microtonal Guitar Improvisers, and currently announced as "An Innovator On The Cutting Edge On The New York City Music Scene" award-winning New York City composer, guitarist and live electro artist STEN HOSTFALT studied with Giants of Jazz Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley, Joe Maneri and George Russell, and in Master Classes with Toru Takemitsu and Gyorgi Ligeti at The New England Conservatory of Music, Boston MA, earning a Master of Music Degree in composition as an Honors Ensemble member, and a Bachelor of Music Degree from Berklee College of Music as an Outstanding Musicianship Award recipient.

Lauded by leading press/media like Jazz Times Magazine, The New York Times and All Music Guide, the initial contribution to New York City's Improvised Music scene was made in weekly performances at Mitch Borden's Greenwich Village Club Smalls as an original member of Guillermo Klein´s pioneering 90's ensemble BIG VAN, alongside new Jazz generation prominents Mark Turner, Ingrid Jensen, Aaron Goldberg, Chris Cheek, Jeff Ballard and Seamus Blake.

Additional 90´s recordings, performances and collaborations, most notably with Gary Burton, Peter Erskine, Paul Bley, Joe Maneri, Jimmy Giuffre and Clare Fischer prepared for the '02 launch of Sten Hostfalt's own record label, g-wOw and the subsequent production of 4 releases as a leader/co-leader.
