Album Notes

Honesty is so important but so hard to find in the music scene these days. It's inundated with people singing about things they never felt or experienced. That is what is so great about Stephanie Morris and her music. With Texan roots and city savvy she makes music that is heartfelt and potent. This is something that is said about a lot of music but can be easily proven by listening to her live or recorded. Her voice holds her melodies without being trite or common. She believes what she sings. It's obvious Stephanie has done her research- her influences range from the female country standards of Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline and Emmylou Harris to their contemporary counterparts- Neko Case, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch. Country isn't her only musical interest, though; during her live shows you can hear her cover pop songs by Beck, Mary Lou Lord, and Comet Gain.

Stephanie has plenty of playing out experience as well. Before her recent migration North, she played the coffeehouse circuit of Austin. In her current home, Chicago, she continues to write songs, refine her skills, and keep her southern roots warm in the winter months.

i was fortunate enough to see stephanie morris perform at nevin's one lovely evening, a few years ago. i didn't get much from that night- which consisted of a round robin sort of flok night. but there was enough from stephanie for me to get her cd- (p.s. stephanie, i believe i owe you 5 dollars). she is country that actually feels real good. real good.
