Album Notes

'This EP is MONEY' is the long-awaited second release from Stephanie's Id, pop-noir sensation from Asheville, NC. It was released on January 28, 2006 to a packed house and has big shoes to fill... 2005's 'Spiral In' was both critically acclaimed and lauded by fans. Shirley Manson of Garbage was a big fan of the band's hit song 'Popsicles' and helped choose it for the JANE MAGAZINE 2005 Reader CD. 'This EP is MONEY' takes a B-sides approach... the recording was done in the studio in a semi-live format, utilizing sound effects and the band's cabaret leanings to create a pop-carnivalesque mini tour-de-force. Features the hit 'White Guys Selling Cars', an a lazy a cappella song, a backstage version of 'Somethin' to See',and a lush cover of Portishead's 'Glory Box'.

5 out of 5 stars--The CD lives up to its reviews!

I bought the cd based on a recommendation from a friend who follows Stephanie's ID. The CD was fantastic, and I can't wait to order the new one! You now have a fan from up north!

5 out of 5 stars--Stunning ...
Reviewer: Fodd
I bought this CD after being introduced to their music by someone who had taken photos of the band. Living in the UK I had never heard of them ... but now I can't stop listening! RealPlayer lists their music as 'generally unclassifiable' and that about sums it up ... fascinating songs which just enter your mind and leave you wanting more. I am stunned!!

5 out of 5 stars--Great stuff

So glad I live near Stephanie's Id. It makes feel good about music, all over again!! dioZ

Is Stephanie's Id Asheville's Next Big Thing? The Indie, March 2005
Reviewer: Dale Allen Hoffman
Stephanie's Id's "Spiral In" is brilliant. This is one of those albums that I wish I ran into more often, but rarely do. From the first drum rolls of the potential hit "Popsicles" to the hypnotic fade-outs of "Feel the Fear", Stephanie's Id delivers a work of art.... I am not going out on a limb whatsoever by stating that this record stands up proudly beside some of my old faithful CD's and will probably remain there until I am laid in my grave....The New York and L.A. money bags are bound to come knocking any day now.

5 out of 5 stars--Great CD and fantastic live performer
Reviewer: Frank Tornoe
Caught Stephanie's Id in Chapel Hill, NC last year for the first time and immediately knew this band was hot. This was the first time I actually saw a singer able to see and pick music out of the air! Stephanie's stage presence is riveting and her band is top-notch. The CD has captures the essence of those live performances. I highly recommend it.

Ecclectic, soulful, jazzy, and talented- especially because all the songs sound different. Excellent!

I highly recommend listening to this whole CD looped. Everytime the next song comes on its better then the first and only gets better when it repeats from 12 back to 1. Great Job SID!

Give your brain something to suck on, your ears will thank you.

I couldn't help but wonder how Stephanie's Id was going to put all of their energy and presence into a Cd format and now I know- Deliciously. Every song leaves me breathless and itching to hit repeat and my ears smiling. From Popsicles to Feel the Fear, I am satisfied and then some. Buy it right now.

5 out of 5 stars--Compelling, powerful and as close to perfect as you can get.
Reviewer: jay joslin
What an aptly named CD... I began to spiral in as the first track began to spin. The sound is so unquely textured, there is no simple way to explain it other than metaphor. I felt as if I were running through layers musical fabric, lured ever onward through the emotion and integrity of the rhythms of the instrumentation and strength of the voice. You just need to listen up, and listen live if possible; Stephanie's Id is a whirlwind, a carnival.

5 out of 5 stars--The best!
Reviewer: squishman
Saw this band play a few months back and was blown away---I had hoped the cd would be at least as good as they are live and I am pleased to say it's possibly even better---what must a man do to win a date with stephanie morgan!?

5 out of 5 stars--Spirals out of control and leaves you ecstatic!!
Reviewer: Ed Wilmot
This album is the perfect escape. Lets you put the mundane world in a dark closet and leave it behind. Vocals soar high, spinning a web of joyous release. The instrumentation lifts the album far above what we normally call pop music, marking a new turn for 21st century pop. Spiral In incorporates vocals, vibes, percussion, and piano into a musical stew that has left this listener mesmerized. It is hard to imagine any album in 2005 knocking Spiral In off of my #1 spot.

5 out of 5 stars--Stunning! Explosive music...
Reviewer: Marc O.
Spiral In is sweaty visceral journey... the soundtrack for post-millenial mating, dating, hating, and elating. I can't get it out of the player! 'bang bang sugarcane, one and the same...i got sweet sweet blood running through my veins...'

BAND BIO:

Enter the Id....your secret arcade of sensuality!... Stephanie's Id, based in Asheville, NC, beguiles audiences with all the surges, pulses, and melodies that can be consummated between a vibraphone, keyboards, a drumkit, and a "hyperactive siren" (Go Triad, Greensboro, NC). Singer Stephanie Morgan, hailing from the western U.S., emotes liberally and "jumps about...like Jim Morrison at a ballet class" (Ed Schiffler, The Asheville Disclaimer), placing idiosyncratic, pictorial lyrics amid long, bended howls. Her vocal style has been compared to that of Bjork, Beth Gibbons of Portishead, and Ella Fitzgerald. Chuck Lichtenberger, pianist and player of the rarish Fender Rhodes Bass, had his rearing in the southeast U.S.; his fingers were trained in classical and jazz methods, allowing him on occasion to pay homage to the masters or to respectfully mock them, imbuing each riff with the libidinal energy of a four-year-old Mozart. Matthew Richmond's musical amour pulses over instruments of percussion; he champions the illustrious vibraphone and is the minister of lambaste to the drumkit. He is a University Instructor by day and frolics in the Id most other times. Cameron Juroff, the son of a short-wave radio wizard and himself an arcade specialist, hones all frequencies, making merry with the drumkit and dabbling in the haunts of the vibes as well. Stephanie's Id delivers modernist lyrics, lush music, and a histrionic live show, stimulating The Indie Magazine to call them "Asheville's next big thing." Their collective influences include Bjork, Miles Davis, Tom Waits, Aerosmith, Ben Folds, Prince, The Cocteau Twins, Paul Simon, U2, Holly Palmer, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder, and James Brown, among others.

STEPHANIE MORGAN, vocals... first performed at age 3 with a broom on the brick landing of her babysitter Virginia's fireplace in Albequerque, NM... was crushed to lose the city spelling bee in Abilene, Texas due to her treatment of the word "yield"...or "yeild" (sixth grade)....has a master's degree in social work from UNC Chapel-Hill....is a Duran Duran fan but didn't like The Power Station... grew up in iowa, colorado, new mexico, and texas, and now lives in asheville, nc....began playing guitar and writing songs after moving to Hendersonville, NC for outdoor work with at-risk teens...doesn't like to be sticky... had a favorite song once: "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head".... thinks it's cool how when you get small enough material objects are really mostly made out of space....played Oscar the Grouch in a second grade play and sang her first solo: "I Love Trash"....once owned homemade plaid bellbottoms that exactly matched her mother's....listened to Anita O'Day mostly when learning how to sing jazz standards...still has idols: bjork, sting, holly palmer, ella fitzgerald, and lots of '80's pop stars....2003...quit day job to pursue music...got some help from a project grant (Asheville Area Arts Council)...was a gymnast...is a really fast typist...does not find spirituality in organized religion but does pass the time looking for god everywhere.

CHUCK LICHTENBERGER, keys/vocals... bangs his head on the ground when he doesn't get his way....he is the son of a self-employed orthopedic salesman and a former secretary with an affinity for puns.... Grew up in Greensboro, NC...he learned to play an entire game of football by himself at age 5....he wears a ball cap and eats organic food....he became a criminal by age 11...no one is allowed near that church bell to this day....at 16, his only dream was to be Dave Mustaine of Megadeth...he still has echoes of that dream today....he has never been a waiter but worked a small stint as a busboy at 22...he and the business parted due to philosophical differences....has a degree in classical piano performance from UNC-Asheville...his favorite album is Miles Smiles....he has a degree in classical piano....he knows all the words to "O.P.P"....his credo is "work hard at not working hard".... currently he has 45 piano students...has played in various bands, various genres including theatrical rock, r&b, and salsa...he can play 7 games of basketball in a row, but thinks being a part-time busboy is exhausting.

MATTHEW RICHMOND, drums/vibes... was the worst track runner in the history of West View Elementary. . was in a band called Floyd Eats Mayberry...had a black rabbit named Lucifer who liked everybody but him...recently played a popgun solo with the Symphony of the Mountains...has a current favorite animal: the octopus...is partially colorblind, which is a good excuse for a lot of things. . .once had an acquaintance known to many as Chubbs the Crackhead. . .believes strongly in the value of peace and quiet. . .has a Master's Degree in music from Ithaca College...wanted to be a stuntman and became very skilled at falling off his parents' fence. . .had a dream to play pomegranate and spatula for a Jewish death-reggae band. . . Premiered Ukrainian Rhapsody for marimba and wind ensemble by Taras Nahirniak...has a favorite author: Isaac Asimov. . .had a college ethnomusicology professor who once referred to "bone flutes made from the bones of hollow bones". . .created a group of cartoon characters called Quo-Dlps. . .has toured the world under the pseudonym "Tom T. Roe" with his sidekick, Hobart Bartfast. . .still swears he has no idea what happened to that thing.

CAMERON JUROFF--vibes/drums is a really swell guy...was the worst t-baller in the history of Jefferson Co., TN...has a father who is a tech genius and wonders why his son inherited none of that knowledge...is still involved with a consortium of musicians known as Disproof...has performed in 7 countries on 3 continents...received a bachelor’s degree in percussion performance under Rande Sanderbeck at ETSU...auditioned to be a towel boy for the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling at age 10...plays videogames online less than he would like to under the aliases STR8 Shifty and Gastricmold...once stole a platter of hot wings from a table of rowdy med-students and immediately ran to his getaway car...has taught young percussionists in 3 states and loves it...has no knowledge of what happened to that thing, but he swears that Lauryn Hill does.
