Stephen McKinney is a singer/songwriter/guitarist based in Somerset, Virginia. This, his first CD, features all original songs in several musical styles – rock, folk/rock, a touch of blues, and country/folk. The recording is clean and honest - all tracks laid down in an uncluttered approach that feels live. This is wide-ranging music covering a broad musical landscape. The hard-driving “Job to Do” rocks out with distortion driven pedal steel, while “Nicotine and Alcohol” weaves a fabric of acoustic melancholy tinged with irony. Regardless of style, the music is magnetic; the lyrics compelling and personal. Characters and their stories are drawn with a poetic economy at once entertaining and touching. On the acoustic tracks, Dean Musser’s guitar work is a thing of understated beauty. Above all, however, this is one of those rare recordings where the song takes center stage.

Mix of Dylan and "The Boss"
author: Yvonne Coble
I thought it was a mix between Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen at their best. Written with heart and soul - a rare find. I loved the music and lyrics. The poetry is genius!
