notes

This debut release acts as an introduction into the group's philosophy and ideas. A message to take an honest look as to where you are in your life. To question yourself about what is real and what is not. These messages can be clearly seen in songs such as Superstar and Sick Of You. Superstar, a song which brings to light the shallow and arrogant desire of some other artists to not use their music as a source of communication with others but only as a source of financial hunger. While the song, Sick Of You, questions why you choose at times to live in a state of depression. One in which you hate everything about your
life including the people around you.

In a time when we are flooded by a resurgence of one hit wonders, it is refreshing to see that a group like Stereo 360 not only cares what is in their music, they make sure that it comes out loud and clear.

Enjoy Your Life Poolside STEREO 360 Baby Pea Records www.stereo360.com This album features the melodic power rock/pop of an act that has captured many ears in the LA/So. Cal areas. I found the music to be smart, listenable and well crafted. 'Enjoy Your Life Poolside' presents the listener with music that melds many influences into a power pop. Songs like "Superstar" and "Automatic" display the rhythmic, melodic guitar work of HILLS and GALDAMES. The other players are solid in their own right. And vocal-wise they can sing. "Plastecine" was a cut that blended clangy ringing guitars augmented by solid singing. Even the lyrics offer some food for thought, something lacking in most pop tunes. On "California" the arrangement proved to be one of the best on the album. The beat is strong, fun, and even hints at a bit of rockabilly meets CHEAP TRICK in places. Guitar layering is good too. One fiery tune is "Vaseline Mouth" in that it leans towards harder rock. Check out the lead axe work. "Radio Parade" opens with a wall of ringing guitar sound but then thins out with nice bass work and a great chorus. Rock guitar blasts come in to spice up this fast-paced track. I liked the vocals. Quite good. "Don't Belong" was one of the more melodic power guitar tunes. It has a classic rock feel and is akin to a rock anthem. One of the best on the CD. This has a very polished feel. It is due to solid production values (RYAN GREEN NoFX, TONIC, etc.) and good equipment. The guitarists supposedly play into classic TUBE and VALVE driven amps cranked all the way up. This project is full of [more] good tunes like "Original" and "Restaurant." The latter reminds of THE CARS meet CHEAP TRICK. It was refreshing to hear songs that are about real life and down-to-earth subjects. No NOT boring but honest, gritty, and even fun. "Sick of You" is a bit of DEVO meets CARS meets a poppier STRAY CATS or even THE ROMANTICS (remember them?) This song is short, snappy, powerful, and offers its own attitude. We then come to the end of an exciting album. "Beautiful" (4:00) closes the project. There is a Lennonesque [vocal, lyrical] sense in the song. Yet the guitars remind of other acts. A very hi-energy emotive work. Overall this is a surprisingly good album from what is clearly a talented act. In my mind they are a refreshing blend of classic and modern, of older guitar rock and new smart power pop. They may remind at times of newer power British pop and also of older classic acts like maybe BIG COUNTRY in places. They are bound to go places and will grab the ear of smart programmers. The lyrics were real and didn't resort to violence or sexism or political correctness. And the singing was good. STEREO Three-sixy is for real and they deserve a listen. relaxing and sweet... two words thats it...

  • Take a musical adventure with Stereo 360
author: by Kent Lutt - Antelope Staff Writer, University of Nebraska Kea

Music is very powerful and mysterious. Songs, melodies, and lyrics can remind you of experiences you may have had in the past. Think of an important time in your life, such as graduating from high school or college. Most people remember the continuous drone of the graduation song, Pomp and Circumstance, whether they want to or not. The music is connected with the experience. However, some music can create experiences. While listening to an album or song, you begin to understand the feeling and the vibe created through the music. Suddenly, you find yourself standing in a crowd at a concert, swaying to the grooves created by the band onstage. You know that you’re actually just sitting in your room, listening to the band’s album on your stereo. Yet, the feeling created by the music is so vivid that your imaginations makes it seem real. The members of the California-based band Stereo 360 have created an album that achieves this powerful and mysterious aspect of music. Their latest release, Enjoy Your Life Poolside, is a soaring accomplishment in the alternative-rock genre. Each song from the 11-track album builds new feelings and concepts to create a unique experience for the listener. Enjoy Your Life Poolside contains the rock sound of the 1980s mixed with the more modern rock and punk sound of the 1990s. The album has definite influences from bands such as the Pixies, the Cars, and Nirvana. It also hails back to the days of the Beach Boys, where vocal harmonies and guitar melodies were all-important to the music. Stereo 360’s release has received critical acclaim across the nation. Many believe it is one of the first steps in reviving the lost alternative rock sound in a musical world full of rap and pop songs. “ With the current climate of metal-rap and cutesy teen pop, it’s become more and more difficult to find true musical storytellers for who words are as important as melodies. Stereo 360 serve up infectious pop tunes that will compel you to start singing their choruses after just one listen, Lina Lecaro, Los Angeles Times writer, said. Guitarist and vocalist Shad Hills, guitarist Luis Galdames, bassist Trevor Zimmerman, and drummer Moon are all accomplished musicians, but they did not expect such success and publicity from critics and fans. The success of the band as of late sort of crept up on us, Hills, guitarist and vocalist in the band, said. The instrumentation on the album, although simplistic, is tight and inventive throughout each song. Most impressive are the vocal melodies contained in each track, which fit perfectly with the band’s thick, heavy guitar sound. The beginning tracks on “Enjoy Your Life Poolside” rock very hard. Superstar, the first track on the album, does not fool with the listener. Its direct, heavy approach draws the listener into the album and sets them up for the next couple of tracks. Automatic and Plastecine follow Superstar. The tracks further establish Stereo 360’s hard hitting alternative rock sound with surging guitar, solid rhythm, and Hills’ unique vocal harmonies. The fourth track, California, helps to slow the album down after the hard-hitting beginning songs. The punk guitar riffs and layers of vocal harmonies sound similar to modern-day rock group Weezer. Yet it still retains Stereo 360’s signature sound and feeling of warm California dreams. After the heavy Vasoline Mouth, Zimmerman’s bass leads the way on Radio Parade. His solid technique keeps the brooding verse sections together as the rest of the band follows right along. Hills and Galdames make excellent use of spatial guitar effects throughout the song. The seventh track, Don’t Belong, is another mellow point in the album. The song contains contemplative lyrics about life and very emotional chord changes. The unique vibe in the song makes it stand out from the other tracks on the album. Following the odd guitar and lush vocal tapestries of Original, the album nears its end with two pop-punk numbers. Restaurant and Sick of You are heavier and more straightforward than many of the other tracks on Enjoy Your Life Poolside. Small doses of funk and effect guitar spice up the mixes in the songs and keep them interesting. To close the album, Stereo 360 chose their most unique creation to date. Beautiful contains a mellow guitar introduction and tasteful techno-keyboard arrangements. As the song builds, it rises and falls in dynamics until a barely-audible guitar section signals the end of the track. The band crashes in with full-force, and Enjoy Your Life Poolside ends with powerful alternative-rock closure. The next time you’re at home and have a desire to visit somewhere else or do something different for a short while, remember the power of music. It can take you anywhere and give you feelings that nothing else can. For any music adventure you wish to take involving midnight drives, summer heat, intimacy, or all of the above, throw Stereo 360’s Enjoy Your Life Poolside into your stereo. Your room will become California when the first song hits your ears. • Not terribly filling, but good enough to satisfy those pop cravings.
    author: Score! Music Magazine

Stereo 360 is the aural equivalent of Poprocks. Pop, pop... pop rock for the masses. The album is packaged in reds and oranges, and so is the music, if you dig. There's a 70s mod-rock flavor, akin to Fastball. Lots of layered vocals and guitar, plus electronics that give it it's shiny candy-coating (melts in your ear, not your hand). Not terribly filling, but good enough to satisfy those pop cravings.

  • anthems that recall The Cars, Enjoy Your Life Poolside lives up to its sunny tit
    author: Omar Perez for Altarnative.com

Stereo 360 Enjoy Your Life Poolside (Baby Pea) With instantly likeable sing-alongs and quirky anthems that recall The Cars, Enjoy Your Life Poolside lives up to its sunny title, and indeed, it is an album to put the top down to. The melodic infliction of “Radio Parade,” combined with a reverberating bass line and arena rock guitar, will make one add choruses to where none exists. The LA band brings a totally eighties tubularity of “Superstar” and, fittingly enough, “California,” with whirling synth effects basking in a pacific-time-zone aura. It’s damn catchy and lingers around like sand in one’s swimming swimming shorts, even if one lives nowhere near a beach. --- Omar Perez

  • Kurt Hernon's Best of 2003 - THE summer record of this past year.
    author: Kurt Hernon for Bangsheet.com & Fufkin.com

Enjoy Your Life Poolside - Stereo360: I like it better when they called themselves the Iroquois Stealth Pilots, but that is merely a matter of my own rock snobbery. My great regret of this past year is that this record came to me at the same time as my father's passing. I was never able to muster up the words to spread the gospel about how goddamn good a rock record these silly SoCal cats had put out, but I'll be forever thankful to them for pulling me through a rather bleak emotional time in the summer of 2003. Shad Hills remembers when rockroll and pop sweets used to coexist as terrific tunes. Now, since no one else seems capable of doing the dirty deed these days, he writes'em and plays'em as good as anyone ever has. Big fat-assed melodies strut along in their bikini bottoms to the endless rush-rush-rushing of guitars. Hills sounds like The Pursuit of Happiness' Moe Berg if Moe had ever had even an inkling about the girl he really wanted. Hills got that girl, only to discover that he loved rockroll more. The background vocals on the refrain of "Sick of You" are an absolute inspiration (angels?) and at least four songs are unquestionable classics ("Vasoline Mouth", "Plastecine", "Don't Belong", and "California" - which frames the line "I got jumped for no reason / it wasn't safe for me anymore" that I prefer to say "I got drunk for no reason… it just makes me feel so much better to sing "drunk" over "jumped"). THE summer record of this past year.

  • reach back into the magic elements of 60’s power-pop, with its slightly psychede
author: Review by Keavin Wiggins for Rocknworld.com "Melody Makers Seri

We hear a lot of bands these days that offer up their own take on power-pop. Some mix it with elements of punk. Others go for a more 80’s feel. But very few take those elements and also reach back into the magic elements of 60’s power-pop, with its slightly psychedelic feel and bring it into the 21st century. The Strokes tried but don’t quite pull it off, but that is precisely what Stereo Three-Sixty accomplishes. In fact, this group lands somewhere between The Strokes and Weezer. And that’s a great thing. The album starts off with “Superstar” and you are immediately transported back to the late 60’s. Yeah, it’s retro and all, but damned if it doesn’t sound great! There is a reason that music is still popular today, and Stereo Three-Sixty seem to recognize that. “Automatic” gives us a bit of the 80’s new wave ala Split Endz. Some may consider it “emo” but it’s so much better than that. In fact, this is what most of the “emo” by the numbers band should aspire to create. This disc is loaded with plenty of ear candy. If you have a sweet spot of guitar driven power-pop with a heavy emphasis on melodic hooks then you will find a lot of love with this group. Stereo Three-Sixty is a testament to the fact that you can look back to those who came before and adopt the best elements of that music and make it all your own. This band does have what it takes to go the distance and are definitely a group to keep your eye on for great things to come.

11 Song CD, 2003. By Shad Hills, Luis Galdames, Trevor Zimmerman and Moon. “Very slick, pro level in an indy style, I’ve been following the development of this band for over a year now, and they deliver with their debut album 11 tracks of Pop/Rock that is very listenable and solid. Using melody and intelligent lyrics, this album is a good presentation of the band’s range of talents, and I’d go see them in a club if they play near you, before they get snatched up by a corporation and are playing arenas, if you hear what I’m saying. If we had a music Pick of the Month running, this would be it!”-IS

  • Lyrically there is some very enjoyable irony and social commentary all over this
    author: James (Writer) for 30music.com

Stereo Three-Sixty's debut album, Enjoy Your Life Poolside, comes out of the LA music scene on their own label, Baby Pea Records. This is a very slickly produced disc, especially for a debut on a small label, but with Ryan Greene (NOFX, Tonic, Lagwagon) in charge of production and engineering this is of no surprise. Coming off with a very Alterna-punk radio sound, Stereo Three-Sixty seem to be pretty well tailored for radio and MTV airplay. Their lyrics, however, speak another story entirely. With the first track, "Super Star" they attack the "rock star" attitudes that permeate any music scene; they are kind of at odds with their own sound. Lyrically there is some very enjoyable irony and social commentary all over this disc. Practically every track on the album at least hints at the shallowness of people at large. "Don't Belong" and "Sick of You" croon away about the despair of life and how subtly cruel the world can be, and it sounds really odd all wrapped in their poppy musical style. Overall the album is very poppy with some very catchy choruses. "Automatic" is especially catchy with its chorus, "Uh oh, you’re better looking / Uh oh, you make more money than me / Uh oh, you’re better looking / I guess it really doesn’t matter to me". "Original " and "Radio Parade" are also very singable. The first half of the disc is the most radio savvy, while you get to hear a little less pop and a little more quality musicianship going into the second half. "Sick of You" has a little New Wave flavor and a very satisfying hook. At times it can be hard to really digest this album due to the radio pop sheen, but if given a chance you will find that this is actually a pretty quality album. It's always good to see a group self-release an album of this caliber and be successful with it. Don't be too surprised if you hear Stereo Three-Sixty's music on the radio and on TV in the not too distant future. Review written on 2003/09/15 by James for 30music.com

author: By Oliver Breitfeld for 11PM.de (Germany)

I believe it is the first time that I hold a CD in my hand produced by Ryan Greene that has nothing to do with Punk Rock. Stereo 360 do Power Pop the classic way, in the style of Feeder with a little Stereophonics - you could also compare them to Rooney. It is obvious in any case that this CD is professionally made, the album sounds just "great". The songs are great top Power Pop songs. The big hit is unfortunately missing, or better yet, gladly missing. You can listen to this CD over and over again and still like it. Usually in Power Pop hits are a "must". You don't feel like you are missing the one big hit because all eleven songs on this CD are full of melody and good vibes. In the USA, it seems like Stereo 360 is something of a big deal. • 11 slabs of no holds barred, edgy, melodic modern power pop
author: Iconic Pop Critic David Bash For BucketFullOfBrains.com UK

This Los Angeles foursome is one of the hardest working bands around, taking pride in the fact that they “never turn down a gig”, and consequently doing quite a lot of them. This approach has paid tremendous dividends, both in their tight live performances and on their debut disc, Enjoy Your Life Poolside, which contains 11 slabs of no holds barred, edgy, melodic modern power pop. Lead singer Shad Hills has a very strong voice, and writes (sometimes with the help of various band members) high octane tunes with thick layers of guitars and very catchy choruses. Songs like “Superstar,” “California,” “Vaseline Mouth,” (love that title) and “Original” should definitely be on today’s modern rock radio, as many similar tunes often shoot up the charts. The band doesn’t stray from the formula too often, but when they do the results can be striking, like on “Beautiful,” which has some fine descending figures and a (well) beautiful circular melody line. Enjoy Your Life Poolside is a very solid beginning from a band who will likely record a slew of fine discs before they’re through. David Bash

  • fresh DIY West Coast rock ..........
    author: Rewireviews.com by ea01 (a.k.a. Eyad Ammari)

Rarely does a band show such a drive to get their music out: they run the label, record and write their music (primarily frontman Shad Hills), and promote and distribute their record. One would think that they’re either pitifully radio friendly or otherwise hard-core with an eye on a Lollapalooza slot. What you’d get, though, is fresh DIY West Coast rock that should hit your foot as soon as it pounds your ears. “I got jumped for no reason/ it wasn’t safe for me/ that’s why I’m goona live in California”, sings Hills on ‘California’, a bare-bone basic rock’n’roll song with a catchy melody and danceable beat. ‘Radio Parade’, ‘Automatic’ and ‘Vasoline Mouth’ exhibit Stereo 360's cohesive guitar work and taste for entertaining lyricism, while CD opener ‘Superstar’ is hooked through and through with guitarist Luis Galdames’s work about to utter to back Hills layers. Being an L.A. band, they surely have survived the glitz of acts that I’d rather not mention so I don’t offend your eyes. In reality, they’ve even surpassed the total sum of Stereo’s members and their influences. To wit: ‘Don’t Belong’ is such a beautiful ballad on all levels (vocals, percussion, leading guitar bridge) to be one of the better rock songs the first half of this year. Album closer ‘Beautiful’ is no less an achievement. ‘Restaurant’ and ‘Sick Of You’ are written and delivered with the same passion and closeness. Produced by Ryan Greene (NOFX, Sick Of It All), it should have been a rewarding experience for the former. After all, at one’s plate is an album providing melodies for enjoyment with more than a bottle of beer poolside. 8. -ea01/july 2003

  • what the Cars might sound like if they made it past the 80's alive......
    author: musicemissions.com

This is what I like to see. Before I even put the disc in my player I know these L.A. based musicians are taking themselves seriously. Their CD package is professional even though they are on a little unheard of label called Baby Pea. Next, I go to the Stereo 360 website and I'm presented with one of the more presentable band sites I have seen. While maybe not one of the most charismatic bands going, Stereo 360 do have something unique that may just be different enough to keep them ahead in the rock world. Their pop sounds like what the Cars might sound like if they made it past the 80's alive. Harmonies are the order of the day and these boys know how to harmonize. The production was done by punk-producer Ryan Greene and surprisingly he pulls all the right levers to make Enjoy Your Life Poolside sound very different. This is just the case of some rich kids putting out a shiny product. Stereo 360 have the goods to back up the Ryan Greene production and the nice packaging. There are hooks a'plenty here, enough for everyone. I would keep an eye on Stereo 360 in the coming years. I think this is a band that will mature into something worth getting to the masses. author: Rick Arnow for 1340mag.com

Slick, slick, SLICK! Wow. This is what Weezer might sound like if they dropped the whole nerd-rock shtick and were really honest about what they wanted all along. At least Stereo Three-Sixty is upfront about it: the first song repeats over and over again "I want to be your superstar." Isn’t honesty refreshing? On the other hand, if that’s what these guys have in mind, they are well on their way to achieving their goal. This CD shows a band that’s poised for the majors; all practiced up to be as tight as possible, harmonies honed to completely perfect pitch, and their songs polished to a blinding sheen. And let’s not forget the hooks! Boy howdy, does this CD have tons of ‘em. There’s not a song on here that isn’t good, although the band does stray a little close at times to major-label cheese with their tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Keep an eye on these guys, nonetheless: they could be HUGE. They want to be my superstar? Suits me just fine. Good luck to you, guys! www.stereo360.com Key Song: Pick one. They’re all pretty good. author: Review by J. Worley for Aiding & Abetting

Stereo Three-Sixty Enjoy Yourself Poolside (Baby Pea) The boys ponied up and got Ryan Greene to produce this puppy. And it sounds like it. The songs jump right out of the speakers and start bouncing around on the floor. The sound is so round and powerful that it's hard to stop tapping my foot (much less pogoing). Stereo Three-Sixty isn't really a punk band. They play power-pop with a rock edge, and so the major-label sheen that Greene has infused into this album is perfectly appropriate. The songs are loud, just a bit faster than midtempo and as addictive as crack. The songwriting has been improved a notch, leaving some of the extraneous debris by the wayside. This is the sort of album that little kids (well, little to a geezer like me) ought to go out and buy in droves. Old farts like me can dig it because it's punchy and utterly oozing with excess energy. And the hooks are pure spun sugar. I liked the last thing I heard from these boys. I love this album. No, it's not the deepest disc around. Who gives a shit? It's summer, man, and when the sun comes out what you need is an album that still sounds great when pumped to 11. A simple joy, which may well be the best kind.

Shad Hills, Luis Galdames, Trevor Zimmermann & Moon are STEREO 360, a young band from L.A. who you should definitely remember. About a year ago they got Europe's attention with their single "Quadruple". In the meantime they finished their album "Enjoy Your Life Poolside" and they are ready to conquer the world. To start a music career in L.A. isn't the easiest thing to do, because in that city there are as much good bands as sand at the beach. A lot of these bands make the mistake to run after trends instead of listening to their feelings or to trust in their own style. That didn't happen to the guys of STEREO 360, they stayed loyal to themselves. They published an impressive alternative-pop-rock album with catching melodies and good songwriting. Songs like "Sick Of You", "California", "Superstar", "Vasoline Mouth", "Beautiful", .... go right into the ear and you can't get them out of your head that easily. Finally another band, who is able to write songs that you not only like but that make you addicted. (END)

These Los Angeles, California storytellers write lyrics that are self-reflecting, honest and insightful. Their music is guitar driven rock with shades of alternative, melodic and pop. The four core members, who are supported by talented guest players, have diverse musical backgrounds and influences, thus their eleven-track collection has a variety of sounds and moods. Edgy energy, enthusiasm and quality musicianship are the norm on this collection. The CD opens on a strong note with 'Superstar', which has a catchy beat, driving guitars and animated vocals. The hook line is the majority of the song but intriguing sounds and tones give the song depth and character. Hard rocking guitars, versatile vocals and a powerful beat make ‘Vasoline Mouth’ a standout track also. 'Sick of You' has dark angry reflective vocals and lyrics accented by rip roaring instrumentation.

Sitting in traffic isn't so bad when you're singing along to the smart vocals and tapping your thumbs to the addictive beats on the stearing wheel. The tracks range from what I'd call punk-pop to a more streamlined alt. rock akin to a less moody Everclear.
