“Steve Sternberg is one of the most versatile musicians I know. He plays a polished contemporary style, and he is a master of early jazz piano, with his boogie-woogie, stride and ragtime renditions. In his music you will hear the roots of American musical heritage.”
Ken Crawford, Florida Heritage Events Coordinator
Museum of Florida History, Tallahassee, FL
Boogie-woogie, blues, ragtime and new age pianist Steve Sternberg is a seasoned 30-year professional musician. For the past seven years he has performed at the nation’s largest and oldest folk festival, the Florida Folk Festival. His shows each year are so exciting and moving that they end with an audience standing and cheering. Steve has performed in other festivals and events throughout the country both as a soloist and a member of rock, dance and jazz bands. Steve's first CD, Honky Tonk Soulstice, released in 1997, is an eclectic mix of boogie, blues, ragtime, new age and jazz. It has three original songs out of the twelve on the album.
In 2001 Sternberg released an all-original EP, Apalachicola Blues. The title track depicts the laid-back charm of Apalachicola, the Gulf Coast fishing village and tourist attraction. It won an award in the statewide Will Mclean Foundation’s Best New Florida Song Contest in 2002. “Apalachicola Blues” and other music from that album was used on the WFSU documentary “Apalachicola, Our Town” which aired on WFSU TV in 2004. On the same station, the duo “Mollie & Steve”, with yours truly on piano, was featured on the local music series “Outloud” with numerous airings which continue to this day. His 3rd album, Shout for Joy, was released in September of 2005. It includes eight original tunes, and shows a maturity in styling, songwriting and arranging. Steve regards it as his masterpiece to date.
Steve is a music educator, having performed in 14 Florida school districts. He teaches private lessons in Tallahassee. You can email Steve at piano214@hotmail.com to contact him for bookings or call 850-893-4219. Visit his web page at www.stevesternberg.net
