ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Steve Barden heard the Beatles' first performance on the Ed Sullivan Show and hasn't been the same since. It's no wonder why the Beatles' music has had such a lasting influence on Steve's music.

Steve began playing guitar at the age of nine. He has studied guitar at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, and has studied composition in film scoring at UCLA. Steve has performed with bands throughout the 70's, 80's, and 90's until he got tired of lugging equipment around. Now, armed with a personal recording studio, Steve is able to fulfill his dreams of writing music and having it performed just as he hears it in his head.

Steve is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, bass, Dobro, mandolin, ukulele (almost any stringed instrument!), piano, flute, harmonica, and sings. As a singer-songwriter, Steve began writing songs in the mid-70's. But as he focused on his guitar technique, recording skills, and all-around charm, it wasn't until the 21st century that Steve began to focus on songwriting again. His first full-length CD of original songs was released in 2007 entitled "Tallulah Lake", a 14 song collection that includes 3 instrumental pieces.

Steve's background in composing, arranging, orchestrating, and performing most of the instruments on the album has allowed him to express himself in a way that compliments the deeply personal songs on the album. Steve is looking forward to sharing his music with the world.

Tallulah Lake
I won a copy of this at Steve's Myspace (Cheers Steve!) so I thought I'd share my thoughts for any of you out there who might be thinking of buying this...

This a very nice album combining many different kinds of songs. From the retro opening of 'I Think Of You', 'You're Not Alone' & 'Beautiful Soul' to the gentle piano and acoustic guitar of 'I Hope It's You'. Next up, we come to the Ska inspired 'A Simpler Life', a lively comment on modern life (such as it is!!) Following next, 'Let Me In' is a more traditional rock song with some lovely guitar and string arrangements. The mellow acoustic rock of 'It Has To Be That Way' follows next and continues to sustain the relaxed mood of the album paving the way for the ballad 'Leanne'.

Following 'Leanne' is 'Elusive One', an nice instrumental that creates a cool divide between the moods of the first and second halves of the album. Followed with 'Carol's Perfume', a simple folk song, with a relaxed yet melodic theme, it reminded me of Simon and Garfunkel and Bob Dylan as it gently carried me back to a bygone era of songwriting. Next came 'Scenic Drive'. (My personal favourite!) With a funky bassline, some great guitar and dictinctive dance leanings, this is a distinct departure from the previous songs.

The next song 'Love Has a Way', maintains the energy of the previous track and has more of a 'classic rock' feel, with a great guitar solo and a driving groove. This brings us to the penultimate track of the album and an instrumental introduction to 'Tallula Lake'. A much darker intstrumental, composed with strings, it is a fitting introduction to the title track. 'Tallula Lake', again with quite a retro feel, combines sensitve phrasing with subtle yet dark momentum.

So, to conclude..... I really liked this album! There were loads of great songs, great moments & some really cool solos. This album has been sensitively arranged and constructed, and has a good sense of 'flow' throughout. It's pretty laid back, but that only really adds to it's attraction for me.
Considering Steve has pretty much composed and played the entire album himself, I think it's a winner!
