Album Notes

ABOUT THE CD, "OUTTA SCHOOL!"

WINNER OF A PARENTS' CHOICE "APPROVED" AWARD (FALL, 2007)

This CD’s mostly humorous tunes loosely follow the chronological pattern of the school calendar, with “Back to School” near the beginning and “Summer Vacation” close to the end—hence the title—but the majority of songs are simply lots of fun, any time of year.

Many musical styles are represented, from the Dixieland/swing-influenced “Monkey, Monkey!” (about the adventures of a little girl and the monkey she liberates from its cage at the zoo) to the old-school ska beat of “Too Many People in a Little House” (composed when Steve was still in school…all those years ago). A number of original tunes pay tribute to classic sounds of the 50’s and 60’s; one such track is “Reading Road Trip, USA,” commissioned as the official theme song for the New Hampshire State Library’s 2007 Summer Reading Program. Also included are standards that have become favorites at Steve’s popular live shows: “You Are My Sunshine,” “Fanga Alafea/Liza Jane,” and others. Thanks to a host of talented musicians and engineer/producer Brian Coombes at Rocking Horse Studio in Pittsfield, NH (www.rockinghorsestudio.com), OUTTA SCHOOL! pleases the ear with a groovy vibe from start to finish.

Rockin' fun for all ages!

My 4 year old and I equally love this great cd, which reflects numerous musical styles with enthusiasm, from 50's doo-wop to swing to ska to old standards. My daughter began singing along to the songs on the second time through (and making her own musical additions), so you know it's gotta be good. "Monkey Monkey," "Back to School," "Iyga Flyga Flega Flyga" all quickly became favorites, although my personal fave is "I Love U...kulele." With humor sprinkled throughout that both kids and adults can appreciate, it is a record that will truly please all ages. Definitely recommended, as is any time you can catch a live performance with Steve.

This cd should be in every car with kids 3 - 8 singing along! My favorites: "Pumpkins Beware" - wonderful, fun and clever! And "I Love U...Kelele" - I just got my first (hot pink) uke, and I'm going to learn this one! And "Snow Day" - waaay cute! Parents will love the clarity of voice and lyrics, well produced instrumental back-ups and age-appropriate topics.

Excellent listening for children and adults alike, with themes that everyone can relate to. The rich sound of his voice mixed with the textured variety of musical sounds and styles using a wide array of instruments makes this CD a MUST HAVE. My daughters love this recording and need to listen to it again and again... Great for long trips in the car.

Outta School! is a lot of fun! My favorite track is "Too Many People in a Little House," but the energy and musicianship is top notch throughout. There are songs for all seasons here, including a very fun Halloween song, but this is a summer album, with plenty of sing-along moments.
