RECENT REVIEWS:

Joe Satriani: "I am honored to play along side legendary guitarist Steve Hunter on his stunning new album, check it out!"

Jim Pasinski: He turns classic songs by Peter Gabriel ("Solibury Hill") and Marvin Gaye ("What's Goin' On") into unique masterpieces of his own as his guitar playing becomes the highlight of the music.

Jeb Wright: (Classic Rock Revisited) "This album is Steve Hunter’s masterpiece"

John Phillips: The Manhattan Blues Project is a work of beauty. A wonderful collection of originality. The production is flawless and pulls you right in. This is one of the best sounding albums I've heard in years! The songs are works of art. This is not your typical blues album. Finally a blues album without the tired blues cliches. This is blues that breathes. This is blues with depth. This isblues with character. What I like best about this album is that there is a deep sense of melancholy running in the blood of these songs yet it is mixed with the feeling of optimism. One listen to this album and one can tell that not only is Steve Hunter a great guitar player but also a man with a heart. Somewhere Chet Atkins is smiling!

Steve, my brother! I can't even express how much I love this album! Every note you play is magical. I don't think anyone alive has your heart and soul. All of your featured guests did fantastic jobs. But your touch is so beautiful. I am honored to be a part of it. I love you, man! We have to get a copy to our buddy Matt Blackett. He will love it.
Take care of your bad ass self!

Just got Steve Hunter's new cd in the mail...I love it....It is a phenomenal album. So beautiful and so smooth. Steve's wife Karen Ann Hunter and I became friends awhile back and when she mentioned starting a Kickstarter Campaign for Steve I was ONBOARD to get this legendary guitarist all the funding he needed. The team blasted Steve's campaign all over the globe! Karen, Steve and I had quite an adventure!

When the campaign hit it's mark, I was jumping all over my office! Steve ended up with 3 times the amount he asked for! Sweet! So here is the amazing result....You can really feel the power in Steve's playing here..He just entered the best phase of his musical career....

I love Brooklyn Shuffle so much...the first solo is Steve, the second is Johnny Depp, and the third is JOE Perry....I have played this tune about 9 times today so far....

ALBUM INFO:

This is Steve's fifth solo album and is a culmination of his love of the Blues and New York City mixed with his love of melody and "Tone Poems".

After recording and touring with Alice Cooper in 2011, he decided to get off the road to write and record.
He thought it would be cool to have some guest players join him and was overjoyed and humbled at the willingness of those he asked to contribute to this project.

Many of the guests he had not worked with before and most had a very different style of playing to himself.
There are two cover tunes but this album is mainly new material written, played and produced by Steve.
He was very happy to also include a short composition by his friend Jason Becker, called 'Daydream By The Hudson'.

On 'The Manhattan Blues Project' you will hear Steve go back to his blues roots in his own unique way.
You will hear string arrangements, vocal harmony arrangements, a burst of guitar shredding by the best in the world and echoes of The Beatles. This album was partly funded by Kickstarter supporters, Steve would like to thank them all once again.

The two cover tunes include Steve's instrumental version of Peter Gabriel's 'Solsbury Hill', a song he had played the guitars on for the original album version in 1977. The second cover is from one of his favorite artists Marvin Gaye, 'What's Going On'.

The Manhattan Blues Project is a rich, uplifting musical experience with lashings of soul, passion and outstanding performances from everybody involved.

The Guests on 'The Manhattan Blues Project'

There are a couple of awesome shredders in Joe Satriani and Marty Friedman, who gave it their all in a spectacular way.

The 2Cellos, (Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser), two young music prodigies from Croatia added sensitivity beyond their years. Steve recently played on a bonus track of their new album ‘In2ition’.

There is Hollywood icon and musician Johnny Depp, who was asked by Steve to have fun and that is exactly what he did.

Tony Levin is a giant in the world of Bass Players, being an integral part of Peter Gabriel's touring band.

Michael Lee Firkins is a master of Slide Guitar, Phil Aaberg is a Grammy nominated piano player and Tommy Henriksen is a rising star producer, songwriter and a current guitar player with Alice Cooper's touring band.

Then there is rock icon Joe Perry, who, as a young player in a band called Aerosmith back in the early 70’s, was in the studio recording an album called ‘Get Your Wings’, when they were joined by seasoned session player Steve Hunter.
Steve was brought in to play all the 'first half' guitar solos on a track called ‘Train Kept A Rollin’. He ran through the track, found the chord changes then went through it again to test out what he might play.

Starting directly after the opening 'train sound' and ending when the track moved into the mock 'live' section.
At the end of that second run through the producer said, “That’s it, thanks Steve”.

‘Train Kept A Rollin’ has gone down in music history as having one of the most exciting opening solos of all time.
Aerosmith continue to maintain their top position in rock music to this day. Steve has watched Joe Perry grow as an artist and holds him in the highest esteem as a person and a player. What an unexpected treat that they are now to be heard together on this project.

The music on this album is Blues based but in a very unique way, there is a blend of genres but it is all glued together by the touch, tone and outstanding talent of Mr Steve Hunter.
