Album Notes

Why did you choose The Bridge as the title for this record?
- “I can’t remember where I heard it, but someone was describing our separation from God and how Jesus bridged that gap through the cross & resurrection. I’m a visual person, so that imagery really resonated with me. I responded by writing a poem/little ditty that eventually turned into the title track.”

How does The Bridge differ from your previous releases?
-“It was more of a group effort this time around. My band & musical friends were involved in everything from writing, arranging, recording demos, selecting the songs that made the cut, and tracking parts on the final studio versions. This team approach brought creativity from new directions, and caused me to look at things from different angles.”

Which tracks stand out on The Bridge?
-“It was great to work with Chris Davis again. He produced my debut CD (Magnify), and does a fantastic job making my stuff radio friendly. Specifically, he put some Weezer-like guitars on the youth favorite ‘Hey Hey HEY!’, used a killer synthesizer hook on ‘Always’, arranged some funky Motown horns for ‘My Redeemer’, and put “Praised be the Most High” through his roots rock filter. Matt Montoro (from Third Stream Music, producer of Peaks & Valleys) also chipped in by producing the dreamy closer ‘Just Need Love’. That song found its direction while I was tinkering around on a glockenspiel of all things. Lastly, I got to wear the producer’s hat for the first time on a few of the more acoustic numbers. The classical ‘That Was When’ and bluegrass ‘Gloryland’ are probably the acoustic highlights.”

What are your hopes for The Bridge?
-“Music seems to be a universal language that bridges gaps between people (race, gender, socioeconomic background, etc.). My songs have allowed me to witness to and share my faith in a way that I don’t think I would have the courage to otherwise. Ultimately, I hope this batch of songs blesses the listener, and makes some type of impact (however small or big) in growing the Kingdom of God. Also, I hope this album opens doors for more opportunities for us to minister through music. Lastly, I hope other churches pick up some of the more congregational songs and make them their own.”

The Bridge is out and how awesome is it to see my kids boppin’ around to cool Christian tunes that are influencing their lives positively. In The Bridge, The Steve Kropp Band has produced dramatically different sounds with each track. Each song has it’s own mind embedding beat and sound that gets in your soul and keeps your toes tapping along. After only listening to it twice, one may surprisingly find themselves singing along, aloud even. Love when someone says to my kids, as the bee bop around with their MP3 in their ears, “What’s that you’re listening to?”…the reply is music to my ears, “The Steve Kropp Band”.
