Album Notes

I started playing guitar at the age of 12 and started writing my own songs as soon as I could string a few chords together. I moved down to Reading from Selby (North Yorkshire) when I was 13 and had to leave all my old friends behind. It was a difficult change in my life but a very inspiring one too. I started playing and arranging school concerts and village hall gigs for the bands from school and then gigs in the pubs when I was old enough.
Music has been a big part of my life but it wasn't until my Brother moved away to go to University that I raided his CD collection and found 3 albums that changed my outlook on music:

Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker
Nick Drake - Bryter Later
Jeff Buckley - Grace

It was a great day for discovering music and these albums helped me to develop a style for myself. Since then I've always been searching for new bands and artists that stand out, and not just the famous ones. I moved down to Southampton in 2002 and since then I've had an active role on the music scene trying to discover local artists and bands, which I've felt, have had something special and need to be heard. I'm still arranging shows around the city to try and promote myself and the local artists, and I still get a buzz from it.

I finished "Halfway Down The Road" in July 2009. The opening title track is what I call my "quarter-life crisis" song as I finished writing it when I was 25, but it also describes and encompasses my journey from my roots in a "Northern Town" to my current life down South. I feel it's an inspiring song for all of those people who want to make changes in their lives but also how important it is not to forget who you are, where you're from and what you believe in.
