Album Notes

Steven Mark has released a record steeped in tradition and beauty. These are songs that haunt the soul, filled with brilliant lyrics and well produced instrumentation. Distraction is a complex ride through the mind that easily stands out as one of the finest sounding recordings of the year.

Steven Mark plays guitar and sings sweetly but with biting dark lyrics. He has the voice, the acumen and the intellect to take his music to the masses.

This album breaks out of the traditional mold and features Steven Mark's dreamy Beatlesque sound. This is mellow music that people chilled out to in the sixties. Vividly written imagery abounds throughout Mark's songwriting.

Mark has a pensive voice that wistfully gets his point across. There's not a bad track on this album, almost fifty minutes of music by someone who actually has something to say and knows how to say it.

A finely crafted, heartfelt and honest album
author: Dan Kelly
As a first release, Steven Mark gives us a thoughtful little howl of a record reminiscent of the wry and cutting observations of a "Dirty BLVD" Lou Reed without the typical angry young man sanctimonious didactism one normally finds, especially in today's climate. Extremely insightful, articulately expressed and disarmingly honest..this is a CD to definitely keep coming back to. One small caveat, "Primary Colors" borders a bit too much on the pedantic side, but amazing songs like "Pass Around the Bowl", "Ubersize That" and "Under the Covers" more than make up for it. "Another Day Insight" is one of the most beautiful, melodic and ethereal songs I've heard in a long time. Overall, a great CD from an artist I can't wait to hear more from.

After after party rotation
author: Coleen Bradley
This albums moody mix of 60's inspired sound combined with insightful bohemian angst is truly refreshing in a world filled with pre packaged sound. The trippy vibe of Ubersize That and the addictive innocence of Another Day Insight defintitely belong in a smoke filled after after party rotation with The Doors, Damien Rice, Radiohead and The White Album.

Great release
author: Tim McGregory
Has sort of a beatle-esk sound. Lyrics are deep and well thought out.
