Album Notes

Hi,

I'm Steven. I love writing songs. "Home Grown" is a collection of 12 songs that I recently completed. The name is appropriate because I wrote, produced and recorded it in my spare bedroom...drums and all. I didn't play all of the instruments but I recorded and mixed it myself. I had some good friends play things like drums, bass, etc. Track 13 tells you who contributed to this project.

Making this album was like planting a garden. The seed of each song was a quick down-and-dirty demo recording. By adding some water (drums) and sunshine (guitars, bass, piano, etc) each sprout grew into a complex but beautiful arrangement.

You can buy the songs online, but I decided to hand-make only 50 actual CDs. The CDs will be on sale at my website until they sell out. After they're gone, you will only be able to buy the songs online (iTunes, etc).

I've gotten a lot of questions about my writing and recording process so I documented the making of this CD. I plan to post a video in the near future.

I wrote track 12 (Make Me Your Wish) for my wife. It was our first dance at our wedding. To surprise my wife, I asked 2 of our favorite singers to perform. Alex Dezen from The Damnwells and Rachel Loshak did an amazing job. If you don't know either of them, go check them out after you listen to track 12.
