Album Notes

YOU SAY YOU KNOW ME is a collection of Songwriter's demos written by Steve Sevek. (Please note: To keep production costs down this CD comes with black and white artwork and is packaged in a shrink-wrapped cardboard sleeve rather than a jewel case.)

Steve started writing songs in 1989 at the age of 42. Steve does not sing or play a musical instrument (unless the bass drum counts?). So how does someone who doesn't play an instrument go about writing songs? Well, in Steve's case it happened like this: One day while going through some bad times and while listening to a Bob Dylan song with abstract lyrics the mood of the song fit Steve's mood to such a degree it inspired him to write his own words to that song's melody. The result was a song that was 11 verses long that could be sung to the same melody of the Dylan song. As time went on, Steve continued writing but writing only lyrics that didn't go with any melody. After, failing to find someone to put his lyrics to melodies, Steve started finding melodies to his own lyrics. This was done by finding a beat or tempo of another song that Steve's lyrics could be sung to. Steve would then sing his song onto a tape without music and send that tape to a demo studio to have a demo made. Sometimes the result was just as he envisioned it and at other times it turned out quite different. But that's how Steve got started.

YOU SAY YOU KNOW ME contains 15 tracks. Three of the songs appear twice on the CD. The song, Will You Marry Me? was written for the male singer and another version called Ask Me To Marry You is the female version. The music on the 2 songs is different as well. The song, Her Name Is Earline, was originally a long drawn out version included as the last track on the CD, track 15. Because it was so long and drawn out, it was rewritten to make it more appealing and the rewritten version is track 2 on the CD. Knee Deep In Love is another song that was demoed twice. Track 5 being the country version and track 14 being the original.

The title track, YOU SAY YOU KNOW ME, is the only song to meet any sort of commercial success. It was recorded on Ralph Records by Blake Luquette on his first CD, WHAT IF. For more info go to www.blakeluquette.com It was also among 500 songs to receive honorable mention in The Billboard Song Contest one year. A review of Blake's CD said this about Blake's rendition of You Say You Know Me: Ok I love the next song too which would be "You Say You Know Me". The beginning of this song sounds like one of those songs people classify as blues songs. You know baby I miss you I got the ain't got my baby blues. This song is really great. - Stormin' Country CD Reviews
