Album Notes

"Treseler is a bonafide big player in the arena of straight-ahead jazz who provides just enough of other ingredients to keep it all fascinating and fresh. . .
There's about as much reflective expression and substance as you could want in such a pristine offering. This is a true study in serious jazz."

-Ronald Jackson, jazzreview.com

"A terrific debut and compelling musical statement"

-Edward Blanco, ejazznews.com

Steve Treseler's 2008 debut Resonance features an eclectic mix of original compositions and music by Kenny Wheeler, Lennie Tristano, Cuong Vu, James Knapp, and Iron and Wine. Steve moved to Seattle in 2003 after graduating from New England Conservatory of Music where he studied with jazz legends Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Brookmeyer, Steve Lacy and George Garzone. He was named "Outstanding Soloist" by Down Beat Magazine in the 2003 student music awards. Steve is a member of the Jim Knapp Orchestra and is in the final stages of completing an instructional book called The Living Jazz Tradition: A Creative Guide to Improvisation and Harmony.

Some really mellow sax; a fine first showing for a rising young Seattle artist whom I recently saw perform in Edmonds, WA. A couple of high points for me are two pieces by Steve: The Gathering and Redemption. I plan to buy several more copies for my friends.
