Album Notes

Steve Waitt had to end up in New York. On a cold day in february 05, he arrived to the city wedged between a fender rhodes, a guitar, keyboard, and a bag of harmonica's. Dreads to his waist and fresh from a piano bar in New Orleans, he had finally found Mecca. His story however, begins much further south, toward the warmer climates of Arizona.

Scooped up by a boys choir and shipped around Europe through the eighties, music arrived into his life about the same time as his other five senses. At seven years old he found the family's old upright, patching together Beatles tunes between his classical lessons. Some years later and two universities behind him, Steve set out. "Its hard to strap a piano to your back, so I found a guitar and learned a few chords". Over the next three years the songs would come. In his music there is this definite sense of the reflective. Not so much directly of himself, but rather of himself through the lives and stories of those he met. From singing in huts by the beach in Mexico, to watching faces he'd play to in the French Quarter, there was no shortage of shadows and voices.

Quickly finding himself a groove, he found a scene of artists in New York who he could finally sing the songs to. Booking early shows in the indie stomping ground of The Lower East Side, It wasn't long until more began to take notice. His songs of love, loss, and leaving, create a feeling of vulnerability wrapped up in a sense of understanding and acceptance. Angry in parts, wistful yet expectant in others, a unique timbre of his very own slowly emerged!

In the final stages of his eagerly awaited debut record, he can be found at the revered Rockwood Music Hall where he blasts his works, full band style with one of the city's most talented collectives. "I couldn't be happier (Waitt adds). "This is what I've been looking for. I've spent the last seven years of my life traveling, it makes sense that I'd settle in a place where nothing ever stops moving".
