Sticks Downey is a three-person rap group from Portland, OR. We formed (loosely) in 2007, after repeatedly running into one another on the flea market circuit. Once we sealed the deal with a run-of-the-mill "blood in/blood out" pact, we spent the next year holding marathon roundtable discussions predicated on riffing, spitballing, tossing ideas around the room, and running a handful of things up a series of flagpoles. We eventually came to find ourselves on the same page, and we feel we've knocked it out of the park. And by "it," I of course mean the collection of songs we recorded after the white board was too jam-packed with ideas to possibly house one more "noggin nugget." (That's our buzz word for song ideas!)
Our debut album (CD) is called When the Belt Changes Hands, and I've done us all a great favor by self-releasing it on Sly Records, a small but powerful label I won a majority share in while refereeing an early morning Guadalajaran cockfight back in '02 (long story). It's crammed full of 14 tracks equaling over 50 minutes of music. If you buy the CD version (and my secret family prays that you do) you'll even get the lyrics, painstakingly translated from the original Dutch.
I can't lie: it's a kickin' setup.
Your friend,
Wockenfuss.

Absolutely fantastic - grab it now!

This is a fantastic album - loved it to begin with and it's grown on me since!
Heard "These Monitors Are Frigid" on the 'Hipster, Please!' podcast (http://www.hipsterplease.com/2009/04/radio-free-hipster-ep-65-no-foolin.html) and after the beat got stuck in my head for days afterwards I realised I had to check out more of their stuff. Picked up the album here on CDBaby and it's been on regular rotation ever since...
The lyrics are excellent, and packed tight with pop culture references, both geeky and mainstream. They're delivered masterfully, honed into quick, fresh and varied rhythms which perfectly complement the beats underneath.
Did I mention the beats? Wonderful variety of orchestrations, drawing on instruments, effects, and vocal snippets to create truly compelling backing for Wockenfuss's rapping.
You've got preview samples right up above, check them out, then grab the album.
I recommend:
'These Monitors Are Frigid'
'Paper Champion'
'Sticks of Butter'
and 'End The Scene'
to get a taste of the goodness that awaits you...
