Jamie Stillway's solo debut release, "Mell of a Hess," presents a dozen of her wide-traveling songs; from Django-esque gypsy jazz progressions, to 21st century ragtime, her music is a rootsy, satisfying mix of classically fueled arpeggios and lush chords.
Stillway has already made her mark with resonator slide man Ben Bonham, snaring serious accolades from all corners. As music critic Don Campbell of the Oregonian aptly reports, "Jamie Stillway not only comps big, fat, swinging and expensive jazz chords, but picks with a ferocity that would make Django proud. If she's not grinning ear to ear during her solos, she should be. Her technique is commanding and artful, and she possesses a gypsy sould that would be at home in 1930s Paris, or busking on the streets of Dallas."
The CD includes several nationally renowned musicians, including blues guitarist Mary Flower on track 9, and Caleb Klauder of Foghorn Stringband on track 4.
"Jamie Stillway is a genre bender who makes you wonder what is in the Portland rain that makes this town rip...inventive, intimate, intimidating - if you dare to try it, it's quite simply wonderful."

"At times sounding like Bill Frisell, and at times like Leo Kottke...Jamie Stillway is a young guitarist with all her chops in order."

Very nice

I love finger picking on the guitar and so this CD starts out beautifully with Jamie's fingers dancing over the strings on "Domisomido". There is some lovely violin on here too. *sigh* There's actually a lot of classical orchestration on this song as well as on the whole CD.
