Album Notes

Volume two of a 2-CD set that celebrates the music of koto master and composer Sawai Tadao (1937-1997). Three duos for koto and other instruments (voice, shamisen, and shakuhachi) as well as two koto solos are included in this recording, which came about as the result of a year-long series of Sawai's music that took place in Seattle. The flowing energy of koto master Elizabeth Falconer, a longtime student and friend of Sawai is featured here, as each piece unfolds to reveal the natural beauty of the landscapes of Sawai's compositions. A treasure, recorded in honor of a musical genius of contemporary Japanese music.
