Stone Axe – Stone Axe
Rock: 60's Rock
If you were to hear this album without the aid of any background information on its origins, your instincts would probably tell you it was 60's-era rock, carefully unearthed from the vaults of an overlooked rock band along the lines of Free or Cream. The fact that it's a new recording is a testament to the precision with which the group crafts not only their songs, but their sound. If you feel like you've exhausted your classic rock options, this is a great place to get a fresh start.

Stone Axe

I love this album. Painstakingly recorded to sound like a long lost artifact from 1970, this is what groove-oriented, organic rock & roll should sound like. Guitarist & multi-instrumentalist Tony Rice & vocalist Dru Brinkerhoff have produced a gem of a recording. They wear their influences proudly, but not in an obvious fashion. Brinkerhoff at times conjures Paul Rodgers, Jack Bruce, & Jimmy DeWar, but has his own bluesy style that is very effective. The playing is sparse & bluesy, allowing the songs to breathe, groove, & ROCK. If you like Free, Zep, Cream, & The Faces, you need to buy this CD. How refreshing it is to find a real rock & roll band with a new, independent release. How refreshing it is to hear a new release that respects the past, while rocketing into the future, without a trace of corporate bulls**t involved in it. Have I mentioned that I really love this album?

This record has not left my cd player in my truck.
Stone axe has brought back my hope for hard rock, in these days of american idol garbage. This record take's you back to the awesome sound of the 70's and then some. Excellent record! I highly recommend picking this up.
