Album Notes

Stone Circle rocks the acoustic music world with its high energy jigs and reels from the Celtic World, and then slips in a surprise Nordic ballad or two, plus an exotic Middle Eastern type tune with a Latin bass. All on two harps, a fiddle, guitar, flute and whistle.

Stone Circle has appeared throughout the Pacific Northwest at concerts, festivals and Scottish Highland Games, entertaining a broad-based audience of folkies, road-trip fanatics and people who just love traditional music done with some guts.

Michael MacBean, the band's founder, grooves on hot licks on his folk harp, setting down Latin beats and counter-rhythms to support the rest of the band. Michael loves using the harp as a rhythm instrument as well as melodic.

Beth Kollé, straddling the two worlds of Celtic and Nordic music, excels on harp as well, but also relishes chewing up an Irish jig on her whistle at double-speed.

Mike Saunders got his start on guitar and excels at any style you can name. But he has more recently turned his awesome talents to Cape Breton fiddling, thanks to his friendship and working relationship with premier CB fiddler Jerry Holland.

Together they created Voyage North, which many say is the premier road trip album for folkies. Ranging from lyrical Irish airs by the last of the bard harpers of Ireland to a hornpipe with Michael playing a blues bass below the melody; from the charming French traditional dance, Mazurka Michel, to the wickedly complex and energetic Baile de Luz, Stone Circle gives you way more than you expect from a traditional music band.
