Flashback to the year 2000: Dave Streets is achieving local success in the L.A. music scene, garnering recognition as a superior songwriter, and playing at legendary venues like The Roxy, The Coconut Teazer, and Highland Grounds. But Dave starts to feel that his rock sound, influenced by and reminiscent of The Beatles, U2, The Rolling Stones, and The Who, might fit better outside of Los Angeles - perhaps back in his college town in the Midwest. So he packs up his axe and heads off to Chicago.
Flash to March 2001: The advertising agency is abuzz with the latest antics on "Temptation Island," and Dave and co-worker Dan Puccini are pounding out beats on each other's cubicle walls. After several weeks of practice in Dave's apartment, the acoustic duo spends the summer performing in many of Chicago's most popular neighborhood bars and pubs.
Though drunken sing-alongs are fun and lucrative, the pair decides that it's time to play all-out, full-band original rock music.
Flash to January 2002: Dan's chance run-in with an old friend from Notre Dame, John Tabis, leads to the addition of the band's front man. The rest of that winter finds the trio, now known as The Stone Puppet, crammed into a tiny apartment. With acoustic guitars in hand, the musicians write new rock tunes
and re-write old ones. These three "regular guys" spend countless hours rehearsing and fine-tuning.
Flash to 2003: The band now consists of five members, playing high-energy, original rock music that focuses on creative songwriting with strong melodies,
memorable harmonies, and catchy hooks. With the addition of bassist Tom Hayes and drummer Pat Golarz, the band has been playing regularly at some of Chicago's
best-known venues since mid-2002. Children of the '70s and '80s with a love of classic pop/rock, the band's musical influences range from modern rock and punk to old school rock 'n roll and jazz. The unique blend of the band members' eclectic personalities and musical tastes results in a smooth, radio-friendly sound that The Stone Puppet can truly call their own. The band strives for variety from one song to the next, playing pure driving
rock, danceable pop, and stirring ballads. The Stone Puppet has quickly developed its own character - unique and modern, but still reminiscent of classic rock bands of the past - that leaves audiences with a sound they can
easily recognize.
In March 2003, The Stone Puppet released its debut EP. Created with the idea of giving their quickly growing fan-base something to take home with them, the CD includes five of the band's original tunes. The Puppet hopes that fans singing along at shows is a sign that this demo is only the start of their success.
