Album Notes

Listening to the music and piano artistry on Sumi Tonooka's "Secret Places" one is easily able to understand why Kenny Barron chose her as the first
pianist to record for his "Joken Records' label.

This Cd mixes wonderful trio work with solo piano. Aside from Sumi's original compostions which are revelatory, the solo piano versions of Bud Powells' Tempus Fugit" , Thelonius Monks "Round Midnight" and Harold Arlens "Over The Rainbow" are insightful and daring.
