Album Notes

Imagine raw emotion converted to sound, pushed through a half-dozen guitar pedals, and divided into odd meter, and you will have a good idea of what it is like to listen to Storyboard. The quartet utilizes a huge range of electronic and organic sounds in songs that escape formula, yet remain accessible. This is not background music; it is music that moves and churns, swelling from delicate melodies into walls of guitar. The band borrows elements from shoegaze, electronic, post-rock, and math-rock, and their lush orchestration and intricate arrangements have them being compared to Radiohead, Sigur Ros, and Bjork.
Formed in 2003, Storyboard quickly built a following in their native Edmonton and were soon branching out to neighboring areas. The group received a recording grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and released their debut album at a sold-out show in 2005. Critics called the self-titled CD, "An emotional tour de force" (Phil Duperron, VUE Magazine) and, "An incredible feat" (Brendan Berg, Canadanoise.com).
Storyboard has performed alongside Feist, Stars, The Hidden Cameras, and Jason Collett, as well as at the New Music West Festival in Vancouver and the Calgary Jazz Fest. The band is in regular rotation on CBC3 and the CBC podcast, and has done demo recordings at Monreal's Studio Plateau with Drew Malamud (engineer for Stars, Metric, Death From Above 1979). They are recording their sophomore album in September 2006 with the Juno-nominated Terry Tran.
