Story of M is a Los Angeles based indie pop band fronted by singer/songwriter Emilie Bernstein. Her experiences growing up as the daughter of a film composer gave Bernstein a unique insight into the world of music, drama and the creative process. Although she originally wanted to be a poet she found she couldn't escape the melodies in her head so she combined her passion for words with the music that was bred in her bones. The result of that effort is her first album, 'These Little Crimes'.
Story of M is also the story of three friends. Lucas Eskin (guitar), Devon Collins (drums) and Emilie grew up together in Santa Barbara, CA. "We lost touch after high school, but reunited after college when we found we were all living in Los Angeles. We formed a band called 'Eve's Garden' and played the Los Angeles club circuit with an ever changing cast of guitar and bass players. Eventually we found Peter Aragon (bass) and Lilly Aycud (trumpet and keyboards) and formed Story of M.
Bernstein hired producer Ian LeFeuvre to produce her album after hearing his work on the Andy Stochansky record '5 Star Motel'. "What I love about Ian's work is that he always allows the song itself to shine through, whether the production is very layered and intense as it is on the song 'Sailor' or sparse and edgy as it is on 'When I Was Hurt'. He helped to bring a real moodiness and atmosphere to this record that really draws you in."
Story of M is currently performing in and around Los Angeles, CA in support of their album. "We are really proud of 'These Little Crimes' and its fun to get back onto the stage. There is nothing like the thrill of performing live and inviting the audience into this world we have created."

Wow
author: Teri Hernandez
It's edgy and lyrical both with a moodiness similar to Damien Rice. What about more?

This is an amazing CD. The lyrics are innovative and beautiful. The lead singer's voice has a haunting quality that you just can't get enough of. I loved the choice of instruments and arrangements. I can't wait for their next album.
