Evelyn Stroobach, M.A., M. Mus.


Evelyn Stroobach is a professional musician and composer with a Master of Music degree from Indiana University. Her compositions have been performed internationally and have been aired across Canada on CBC radio. Evelyn has scored for film and won awards for her works.

Ms Stroobach’s compact disc entitled 'Aurora Borealis' has just been released. 'Aurora Borealis' contains eleven of her compositions composed for a variety of different musical genres and her works are performed by some of Canada’s leading musicians. This CD project was awarded funding from FACTOR (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Records), the Council for the Arts in Ottawa and the Corel Endowment for the Arts. 'Aurora Borealis' is available through CD Baby.

Ms Stroobach’s music book entitled 'Medieval Tales: The Art of the Mode' was published by Oceanna Music Publications in June 2005. 'Medieval Tales' contains six piano compositions written in different modes and also includes performance notes and relevant music history written by the composer. The book is now for sale across Canada and the United States and can be viewed on-line at www.oceannamusic.com/new_piano_releases.htm.

Ms Stroobach’s composition entitled 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel' for SATB chorus and violoncello was a winning work in an international composition competition held by ERM Media. The prize includes a performance and recording onto compact disc on May 5th, 2006, of 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel' by the Kyiv Chorus and the National Opera Chorus in Kiev, Ukraine. As well, Vera Korniolova, principal cellist of the Kiev National Philharmonic, will be performing the cello part. This composition will be recorded onto the 'Masterworks of the New Era' CD label. 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel' will be recorded onto a CD entitled 'Holidays of the New Era' and will be offered for sale internationally.

In May 2006, Harmonia Choir under the baton of Kurt Ala-Kantti will perform Ms Stroobach’s composition for SATB chorus and string quartet entitled 'Sweetest Love, I Do Not Go' in their ‘Music Ottawa’ concert. This work is ten minutes in duration. The text is a poem by the British poet John Donne.

Ms Stroobach is a member of the Association of Canadian Women Composers (ACWC) where she formerly served on the board of directors. She is also a member of the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), the International Alliance for Women in Music, Guild of Canadian Film Composers, Cultural Human Resource Council, the Canadian Music Centre and the American Music Center.

As well as composing and producing CDs, Ms Stroobach is also a music professor. She also has a number of music students whom she teaches privately.

Evelyn Stroobach currently lives and works in Ottawa, Canada.
