Album Notes

'Love and Other Vices' is Stryngs' second recorded offering.

The album is a collection of songs that offer something for the heart and the mind. The band puts great store by the quality of Strings' lyrics, and the musicianship is of a high standard throughout. They believe that the song is greater than the sum of its parts; there is no flashy, attention-grabbing playing, only fine settings for the voice and lyrics.

The line-up remains drums, bass and acoustic guitar at the core, supporting female vocals. Piano, violin, Hammond organ and mandolin complete the sonic picture.

Run My Pen Dry; Two passions, combined.

The Aeroplane Collector; Some people don't change, they just get more boring.

Anywhere But Understood; Travelling to know, and to escape being known.

Cartwheels Over The Watering Can; 'Nascent soul I nearly knew; you are not forgotten'

Hidden Tattoo; Do you feel guilty if you don't measure up?

Dragonfly; A free spirit given shelter.

Angela; Someone that couldn't be helped.

Rubber Chicken Soup; Ever had someone rock your world?

Parachute Games; 'A huge, white mushroom cloud sinks soft without casualties'.

Sweet As Lemons; Sometimes, you can't see yourself as others see you.

The Lonely Man; A tale of unrequited lust.

Eremos; Drawing the hermit from his shelter.

Middle England Cross; 'Like a pearl, the oyster is her world'.

even stronger than their first, this is a truly great album. strings continues to amaze with the depth & quality of her lyrics. intense & powerful lyrics, combined with a voice that is gentle & warm, taking the edges off the occassional stings, and making it oh, so pleasing & listenable. i wish i had the words to describe the music. its gentle, lilting, melodic, haunting, textured, perfectly fitting the tone & mood of the songs. float away in a truly great musical experience, no instruments overpowering, each just adding their perfect contribution to the overall sound & listening experience. this is a truly great album.......
