Album Notes

Stuart Mason: vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, tambourine, feet. All songs written by Stuart Mason unless otherwise noted.

Featuring: Gilles Apap (fiddle), Duane Inglish (accordion), Bruce Powers (hammered dulcimer), Jonas Richardson (harmonica), John Weed (fiddle), and James Wimmer (fiddle).

The earthy twang of a homemade banjo as it's frailed in the old mountain style. The ringing song of a wood thrush from deep in a West Virginia laurel thicket. The slap of leather soles on a hardwood dance floor at the local parish hall.

Stuart Mason announces his solo release Appalachian Bride, which takes the listener on an autobiographical journey into the West Virginia mountains of his birth. The record features his award-winning traditional singing on original and traditional pieces with acoustic guitar, mandolin, and clawhammer banjo. Blazing fiddlers Gilles Apap, James Wimmer, and John Weed lend a hand, as well as Jonas Richardson on harmonica, Duane Inglish on accordion, and Bruce Powers on hammered dulcimer. Listen to sample audio clips on CD Baby, and you'll know why Stuart calls his music "post-mountain oldternative!"

Conjures up visions of warm summer nights spent dancing barefoot in the grass. An infectious energy just carries me away...to a time and place I'd love to be transported to for awhile.

Stuart Mason is one ot the greatest rhythm guitar players around. He is also able to match his lyrics to the old time melodies to make an interesting mix of the old and new that is captivating. This CD really gets down to the essence of Stuness and should be checked out.

The first time I heard Appalachian Bride I thought what a great collection of obscure tunes from the public domain ... then I realized Stu penned most of them. Every song's a story worth listening to. Highly recommended!
