notes
Shmitt is a talented producer, songwriter, singer and guitarist. He pens unique tunes infused with heart, wit and irony. On this, his debut album, his lyrics paint audio postcards with instrumentation from slide guitar to bagpipes.
"The title track "Nothing Is Real", is a striking song...one of many on this album that signal that Shmitt is a major new talent...yearning melodies...darkly poetic...sure-handed pop hooks"-Jay Lustig, The Star Ledger, NJ
"Shmitt is lyrically poetic...he has a singular sound that shows great promise and deserves a spin"-Dan Aquilante, New York Post
"a mesmerizing piece of music"-Vin Scelsa, "Idiot's Delight", WNEW-FM, NYC
"I dig the CD! Nothing Is Real is one of the best indie releases this year!"-Peter Bochan, "All Mixed Up", WBAI-FM, NYC
"Stuffy Shmitt picks the right tones, moods and lyrics to hop in his musical sidecar that's up to no good. His destination is a bit odd and retro in a jacked-up Camaro on cinderblocks kind of way"-The Aquarian Weekly
"Shmitt's CD is a work of art about what happens to people who live like there's no tomorrow but forget to die young"-Shepherd Express Metro, WI
"rating 4 (out of 5)...impress your friends with your keen musical ear"-The Aquarian Weekly, "first listens"
Three Stars!!!-The New York Post, CD Roundup

Man is a poet
author: KellyI thought the CD had amazing lyrics and a great style of music, I loved it.
Like it alot
author: DaveStuffy's vocals are very interesting and especially on "Heart Above Water". That tune is worth the price of the CD. I look forward to hearing more.
This CD is way better than I thought!!
author: Leslie in Hawaii -- againI should learn not to form opinions after only one listen. I've given Stuffy's first CD more ear time, and I have to say: I love this guy! He's a deft balladeer whose words and melodies resonate in my soul, and one only wonders why a talent such as his is not better known. That's OK, he can be our little secret. If you haven't tried Stuffy, give him a spin. You won't regret it!
An interesting first CD hinting of greater things to come
author: Leslie, HawaiiI approached Stuffy's music backwards, first getting "Other People's Stuff," then "Dog Eat the Moon" and now "Nothing is Real." While some of the songs on this CD are catchy, and Stuffy's vocals always captivating, this is probably the weakest of his recordings. The three recordings in combination, though, have made me a Stuffy Shmitt fan and I can't wait to hear what he comes up with next!
I was particularly impressed with the lyrics
author: SA FaberThe music was great, particularly vocals by Stuffy Shmitt I thought the lyrics were poetic. For stars for Stuffy who wrote the lyrics.

NOTHING IS REAL is a collection of songs drawing on some of the artist's own experiences. Words straight from the heart and strong melodies make it a memorable listen - an antidote to any chaos. Is Stuffy Shmitt the brother Tom Waits never had? This reviewer could be persuaded.
