Sue Fink is one of my favorite songwriters... clever, quirky, fun!!!

At last, a full-length disk from Chicago's wonderful Sue Fink! Her lilting, sweet voice--here expertly accompanied--carries the listener through good times and bad. I love the funny and beautiful and quirky, but the sad songs, especially "Our Last Goodbye", knock me out! Highly recommended!

Sue! Wow! Sue, sue, sue! I'm very proud to know such a wonderful songwriter, and want to tell the world how special this album is. Sue's images are just so great - with her descriptive words, she paints pictures which the listener can easily imagine and grasp. Here are my specific thoughts upon my first listen: * The songs are joyful and inventive and sparse and simple and perfect, * Sue's voice gets stronger as the album goes on, and the background vocals are so light and airy and delicious and complimentary to what she is doing; * My favorite song - which made my cry upon my very first hearing (live), and STILL made my cry listening to the CD - is "Our Last Goodbye" (it will likely get to me every time!); * Vocals and pitch and whole delivery is absolutely PERFECT on "I Saw a Bird" (that song should really be in an indie film - it is perfect for film!); * I LOVE the quirky, inventive story of "Tale of Rover" (I hadn't heard that song before), and the production on "Song of the Cell" which fleshed out the location and the other characters in that specific "story" - GREAT!; * The guitar work (picking especially) is wonderful, and all the other musicians are perfect, and oh! I love the cover art and the inside art; * It is really a wonderful listen and great production - it is simple but specific, all the instrumentation is just right and, again, the background vocals weave in just so lightly and beautifully with what she is doing in each song. Wow. This is a wonderful production from a quirky little songwriter from Chicago. Get it and enjoy it.

Songwriter Sue Fink has captured and distilled into song the essence of life around her; man, dog or bird, she illuminates and entertains with her clear-eyed yet affectionate look at our humanity, our foibles. She is downright funny when skewering clueless cell phone users, the guy who never calls or the difficulty of navigating the road to a relationship. Even Rover, the forlorn canine pining for the golden-haired, long-eared beauty who passed him in a car, has his turn ("So now it's been months, or now it's been years–-linear time means nothing to me"). To pigeonhole Ms. Fink as a humorist, however, is to miss the depth of her capabilities and reach. From the sultry "Fine Line" to the absolute heartbreak of "Our Last Goodbye" and the hope-filled "Tonight," she writes with passion and sings with complete sincerity, qualities that make these songs smart and immediately memorable. Each is unique, beautifully arranged and accompanied to perfection by her fellow musicians. How many CDs can make that claim? Pay attention. "Damsel in Distress" is that good.
