"Laughing Like A Banshee" , written, produced and released in 1999 by Rick Summer Droit has become a favorite among festival goers and lovers of folk, folk-rock and acoustic music everywhere. Rick Summer pooled his talented friends and touring artists from The Kerrville Folk Festival to team up with him on 15 of Rick's original songs, and a couple of traditional songs as well, making this a 17 song CD.The CD starts out with a song performed onstage at Kerrville with Owl Morrison on Viola and backing vocals, and moves to what Rick's fans call "The Cloud Song" (The Simple Life), also longtime friend Chris Chandler (courtesy of Prime CD) lends his spoken word talents to a stirring rendition of "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" accompanied by Rick Summer & Laura Freeman (Luna Tart).Freeman also appears on the hit "Sleepy Hollow", her ethereal and stunningly beautiful vocals blend well with Rick's bluesy sounding vocals on this track and this blend kept the song on Soundclick.com Internet Music Charts where it HELD the TOP 10 for over two solid years!."Sunset Red" is the only track that features a full band, ( Rick's former band "Blue Honey" ) featuring the amazing Brian Smith on Drums, ( courtesy of Atlantic Records and former member of Cyclesluts from Hell of MTV early 90's fame)this tune has the full band sound which is unlike his acoustic solo material but very desirable nonetheless.Earth First Environmental Activist Danny Dolinger plays guitar on the Eco-Anthem "Mad Desolation" which also was covered by folksinger Colleen Eliza Springwater and broadcast in Spanish to the Zapatista rebels in Southern Mexico, the song became highly requested on Radio Nuevo. Traveling minstrel Ky Hote lends his unique guitar talents to "Johnny Drag" and "Kindred Soul" and Geoff Herring plays backing 12 string on the carnival-esque "Ferris Wheel"Tami Griffin formerly of the Austin Texas band "Turtle Creek" plays inspired flute on "No One Hears" and the Celtic favorite "Star of the County Down"Others featured on the CD are Kale Kalloch (backing vocals), Jason Wilkenson (D'jembe), Caroline Fuller (Rainstick), and Jay Sea Campbell (Native American Spirit-Flute) and Joanna Dejarnet on backing "yeah yeah's".This CD will be bring literally hours of enjoyment for lovers of acoustic music with thoughtful lyrics, 17 songs.Rick Summer Droit has had a legacy of meeting interesting people and writing songs about the places he has traveled, 'The Traveller's Son' has been encouraged in his work by illuminaries such as the late Dr. Timothy Leary, Abbie Hoffman, Joan Baez, Jack Hardy and other pioneers of American folk and acoustic music."Summer" as he is called by his die-hard fans, has toured across the U.S. in coffeehouses, colleges, festivals, benefits, bars, lounges and restaurants, Rick has also appeared on National Public Radio and PBS and ABC Television. Summer brings in the year with a Roar
author: The Midwest Review
This new CD by Summer Droit called "Laughing like a Banshee" is in my opinion a true work of art, it has 17 of the most interesting and hip songs I have heard from a new artist in a while, from the start of this guest-star studded CD there is an upbeat sense of fun and magic, while mostly acoustic this album has some rockin' tunes too, and pleases even my cranky older brother, from the bluegrassy "Four Lane", to the folk rock "Sunset Red" ending up with the beautiful "neverfall" I can't stop listening to it! I don't know why Summer isn't in the media more often, in my opinion he's the hottest thing going right now, this artsit really brought my spring in with a Roar!
