The music of summer-winter is influenced by Terry O’Hara’s wanderings and work as a dishwasher, farm hand, graveyard security guard, vacuum cleaner, and political aide. After overtures and rejections from Harvard and community colleges, T. O’Hara reformulated his philosophical pursuits and caught a train to Northern Oregon, where he worked in a hen house. Harmonica always in hand, he busked the streets of Portland, often bedecked in a mask and scarf, to imply mysteriousness. Fired from most of his jobs due to lack of skill and poor interpretation of interpersonal cues, T. O’Hara typically learned to play a different instrument or eat strawberry flapjacks to console himself. He settled in Pittsburgh due to the allure of its shantytowns and racial harmony. After failing to open a hobbyshop, T. O’Hara has attempted to jam with misfits and miscreants ever since. This album is a down-tempo, melancholy, mellow tribute to utter confusion about life and relationships.
